Inscribed photograph signed: "To Michael Robuck/all the Best/Bob
Mathias", in blue ink, B/w 10¼x8. Bob Mathias (1930-2006) won
Olympic gold medals in the decathlon in 1948 (at age 17) and 1952. As a
fullback for Stanford University's football team, he became the only man ever
to compete in a Rose Bowl and the Olympic Games in the same year (1952). As
spokesperson for Wheaties he boosted the cereal's image as "the breakfast of
champions". A Republican, Mathias represented California in the U.S.
Congress for four terms (1967-1975). Corners slightly worn. Pencil notes
(unknown hand) on verso. Small smudge on bottom edge. Light crease on top edge.
