Lease agreement of indefinite length between Universal Pictures and Buck Jones, authorizing the use of a Universal lot and accompanying soundstages, props and other resources for purposes of film making, using his own production company. Two binding holes and fasteners at top. Fine condition. Accompanied by two related documents: a cardstock lease agreement (Exhibit A), 1 page, 5¼x8¼. Lightly toned. Fine condition; and Exhibit B, a rider, 1 page, 10x8½. Soiled from cardstock, Otherwise fine condition.   Jones, and not Universal Pictures, is to be liable for any damage to the facilities. Buck Jones (1889-1942) was one of the most popular Western stars of the 1920s. When Westerns took a back seat to the early talkie era, he continued appearing in successful horse operas and dramatic films until 1936. At the peak of his popularity in the 1930s, Jones was receiving more fan mail than Clark Gable. Jones produced more than 20 Westerns at the studio between 1934 and 1937. In 1940, he co-starred in the Rough Rider series. He was guest of honor at a party given by his producer/manager at the Cocoanut Grove nightclub in Boston when a fire broke out; Jones perished in the fire, along with 500 others. Three items.
