LA ESTERELLA, CO-SIGNED BY: EVE BOSWELL, THE PETERSEN BROTHERS
Program for a 1952 performance at Blackpool's New Opera House, signed by singers La Esterella and Eve Boswell
Program signed "With my very best wishes/La Esterella" on La Esterella's bio page in black ink and, on cast page, "The Petersen Brothers" in black ink and "Eve Boswell" in blue ink. B/w, 8 ¾x11¼, 2 sheets, front and verso. Program for an Aug. 3, 1952 performance at the New Opera House in Blackpool, Great Britain. LA ESTERELLA, born Esther Lambrechts near Antwerp, Belgium in 1919, is a Belgium pop and light classical signer who was popular in Europe in the late 1940s and 1950s. La Esterella, who can reportedly speak an incredible nine languages and sing in 10, got her start at a singing concert in Antwerp, winning first prize after only her second try. She was especially popular in Britain, touring for six months every year from 1948 to 1954. She retired in 1962, though she did break her retirement several times in late 1990s and early 2000s to record a few songs. BOSWELL (1922-1998, born in Budapest, Hungary) was a pop singer with several hit songs in Britain around the 1950s. She toured with her parents in England as The Three Hugos during World War II before marrying and touring South Africa, where she became a star. Bandleader Geraldo persuaded her to return to England as part of his band in 1949, but they parted ways in 1952. Her hits included Sugar Bush (1952), which she sung in Afrikaans, and Pickin' a Chicken (1956), which peaked at No. 9 on the UK Singles Chart. Her career declined in the 1960s, and she eventually moved back to South Africa. Lightly toned, soiled, scuffed and creased. Pages have separated from each other. Tears and light dents and chips in all edges. Rounded and worn corners. Otherwise in fine condition.
