Carbon copy contract signed "Marlene Dietrich" and initialed twice "MD", all inred ink. Also signed by a representative of Ashley-Steiner Inc in blue ink.6 pages, 8½x11, 3 sheets front and verso. New York, New York, Sept. 1, 1962. Contract between Ashley-Steiner Inc. and Dietrich in which she employs the Artist's Agent for a period of one year for 10 percent of all monies received by the Actor. Dietrich (1901-1992, born Maria Magdalena Dietrich in Schöneberg bei Berlin, Germany) was already known in Europe as a singer and live performer when she achieved film stardom in two 1930 releases: The Blue Angel and Morocco (Academy Award nomination for Best Actress). Paramount's answer to MGM's Greta Garbo, Dietrich was for a time in the 1930s the world's most highly paid actress. Her films were later banned by the Nazis in her native Germany, and she played a key role in U.S. wartime efforts, singing her hit Lilli Marlene on many USO tours. Lightly toned and creased. Upper corner of pages 5 and 6 is lightly discolored. Three torn staples along one edge of sheets. Otherwise in fine condition.
