WALTER PIDGEON
He signs acknowledgement of a documentary letter from First National Studios, informing him that they are exercising an unspecified option under a contract signed the previous year.
Document signed: "Walter Pidgeon", also initialed "WP", 1 page, 8½x11. Burbank, California, 1930 February 27. Documentary letter from First National Productions Corporation, dated February 18, signed by two National Pictures executives with Pidgeon's signed acknowledgement. Citing a contract between Pidgeon and the Studio dated October 12, 1929, as amended January 10, 1930, First National Pictures exercises an unspecified option under the terms of that contract. (This was probably an option to make another film; Pidgeon appeared in four movies produced by this studio between 1928 and 1930.) Canadian actor Walter Pidgeon (1897-1984), who had his first leading roles in silent films, earned Best Actor Academy Award nominations for Mrs. Miniver (1942) and Madame Curie (1943). He had prominent roles in many other successful films, including How Green Was My Valley (1941), The Bad and the Beautiful (1952), Forbidden Planet (1956), Advise and Consent (1962) and Funny Girl (1968). Pidgeon received a Tony nomination as Best Actor in a Musical for Take Me Along (1960). First National Pictures was purchased by Warner Bros. in 1928, but the studios maintained separate corporate identities until the mid-1930s. Normal mailing folds. Corners lightly worn and creased. Toned. Staple holes in top margin. Light surface creases. Otherwise, fine condition.
