Typed Letter Signed: "William Collier", 1 page, 8½x9½. New York City, New York, June 8, 1922. On official letterhead for the Friars Club, New York. To "Friar Mac Hirsch" In full: "At a meeting of the Board of Governors held in the Monastery, Wednesday, June 7th, 1922, a resolution was unanimously passed, tending you're a vote of thanks for your untiring efforts, and splendid results, in connection with our FROLIC presented at the Manhattan Opera House, Sunday Evening, last. The time and work you so unselfishly devoted to this frolic is appreciated to the fullest extent by your Board of Governors and the membership at large. Friarly yours, Board of Governors." Actor William Collier, Jr. (1902-1987) began on stage and in silent films, earning his first on screen role at the age of 14 in The Bugle Call (1916). He went on to appear in over 80 films, including Eve's Secret (1925), The Show of Shows (1929) and The Phantom Express (1932). After he filmed Dancers in the Dark in 1932, Collier, Jr. retired from acting, officially in 1935, but he continued to pursue film as a director and producer. He is the son of actress Paula Marr, who married actor William Collier Sr. after she divorced Collier Jr.'s biological father. Collier Jr., who was born Charles F. Gall, Jr., was renamed after their marriage. Multiple mailing folds. Creased and toned. Edges and corners worn with small nicks and tears. Otherwise, fine condition.
