CALVIN COOLIDGE Coolidge Proclaims 30 Days of mourning for Woodrow Wilson. Proclamation signed: "Calvin Coolidge" as President, 7¾ x 12¼. Washington, D.C., 1924 February 3. In part: "To the People of the United States: The death of Woodrow Wilson, President of the United States from March 4, 1913, to March 4, 1921, which occurred at 11:15 o'clock today at his home at Washington, District of Columbia, deprives the country of a most distinguished citizen, and is an event which causes universal and genuine sorry. To many of us it brings a sense of a profound personal bereavement." President Calvin Coolidge signed this February 3, 1924, proclamation, appropriately printed on black-rimmed mourning paper, to announce the death of former President Woodrow Wilson (1856-1924). This unique document unites two very different men, both of whom achieved national respect for their uncompromising integrity. Toned, creased, horizontal fold at center. Fine condition.
