BORIS GOLDOVSKY
The Russian-born conductor who popularized opera in the United States signed this program from a performance in New York City
Program Signed: "Boris/ Goldovsky" on verso. 6¼x9½. Four pages. This program is from a performance at The Community Concert Association in New York City, New York. Boris Goldovsky (1908-2001) was born in Moscow, but moved to Europe with his family when he was just a boy. While travelling throughout the continent, he learned to speak many different languages. He moved permanently to the United States in 1930. After tenures with various opera professionals for 15 years, he opened the New England Opera Theater in 1945. Many singers and musicians learned how to perform on this opera stage and went on to enjoy national success. Goldovsky closed the Theater in 1985, but his legacy as a major influence on opera in America still resonates today. Toned and worn. Otherwise, fine condition.
