bounty hunter in TV's Wanted: Dead or Alive. McQueen was nominated for the Best Actor
Academy Award for The Sand Pebbles (1966). Among his many other movie hits were The
Magnificent Seven (1960), The Great Escape (1963), The Cincinnati Kid (1965) and Papillon
(1973). He was married to actress Ali MacGraw from 1973-1977. Writing light but legible.

leaf), 8½x11. No place, 1939 January 11. To "Dear Carlotta". In
full: "You say your voice has improved, but if you cannot commercialize
on it, it will do you very little good, and cause others who have to listen to
it quite a bit of business. Thank Christ you never took up the cornet. I will
ask mickey mouse or pals to meet you at the station with station wagon. So look
for either upon your arrival. [next 3 sentences written in cramped script in
margin.] I will call you up at 8th St. Don't be fretting about your birthday.
You know money is very good and I hate to hear anyone mention it. I will be out
of town as the painters come in Monday. We will be most anxious to see you and
have you tell us about London, Berlin, Paris, Moscow, etc. Carlo-Ta-Carlo-Ta".
W.C. Fields (1879-1946) began entertaining as an amusement park juggler
at the age of fourteen. He was a vaudeville headliner before he was twenty and
toured Europe in 1901, giving a command performance at Buckingham Palace.
This framed letter that features the composer's autograph shows his interest in new
phonograph recording technology
Typed Letter Signed, "George Gershwin". 8¼x10½. One page. Dated September 14, 1931.
On his personal letterhead. Gershwin writes to a representative of R.C.A. which was the parent
company of N.B.C. (created in 1926 to broadcast on radio) and Victor Labs (acquired in
1929 which built phonographs.). The conglomerate was able to remain at the forefront of
early broadcasting technology for many years due to the unique merging of technologies.
Gershwin's association with R.C.A. was a long and fruitful venture. It was R.C.A. that
recorded "An American in Paris", which was used in the 1951 musical film of the same name.
Gershwin's letter in full: " My dear Mr. Clark: I received your invitation to dinner at the
Savoy-Plaza on September seventeenth. I am tremendously interested in hearing the new
development in phonograph recording, which you will probably demonstrate account of a previous
engagement which I have for that evening. Perhaps some day you will permit me to come down to
the New York offices and listen to the new development. With many thanks, I am Yours sincerely,
George Gershwin gg/ob". Annotated in pencil in another hand: "File CC arrange for.…"

William Frederick Cody earned the name "Buffalo Bill" for killing thousands of
buffalo as a hired hunter in 1867 and 1868. Cody had begun his wild west career herding
cattle at age nine. Five years later, he became the Pony Express' youngest rider. Throughout the
Civil War, Cody worked as a government scout, extracting from life and the West all it had to
offer. His western notoriety grew with his adventures, including those during the Sioux War, in
which he purportedly fought a duel with Chief Yellow Hand. Cody's theatrical career was
launched that same year with his re-enactments of such Indian battles. By 1883, he formed his
first Wild West spectacle, becoming a master showman who toured internationally until
1903.

Autograph Manuscript signed: "Buddy Holley", 1p, 8x10½. Lubbock
(Texas), 1953 March 17. An English grammar test. Holly (original spelling
"Holley") has headed the page, signing his name in the upper left and
writing "English 22v (2)" beneath his name. At the upper right, he
has penned "Lubbock High School" and the date "March 17,
1953". Headed: "Test" by Holly, the test had 40 questions;
just the answers are written. Holly had to identify parts of speech ("adv",
"noun", "pronoun", "conjunction") and types of sentences ("run-on",
"phrase", "sub. clause"). Only one answer (the first) is marked wrong. Holly
was graduated from Lubbock High School in 1955 and within a year was recording
for Decca Records. He was an innovator who wrote his own material and was among
the first to use such advanced studio techniques as double-tracking. Holly
pioneered and popularized the now-standard rock-band lineup of two guitars, bass
and drums. He began experimenting with orchestration shortly before his death in
1959. His first song recorded with the Crickets in 1957 was "That'll Be the
Day". "Peggy Sue" followed.

the Smithsonian National Museum of Modern History in 1987. Best known for playing
the "Man of Steel" on film and on television, George Reeves (1914-1959)
made his film debut in 1939. He played one of Scarlett O'Hara's hopeful beaus
in Gone With the Wind (1940). Reeves' career took a turn when he was cast
as Superman/Clark Kent in 1951's Superman and the Mole Men, a role he
reprised in the 1953-1958 television series. In The Adventures of
Superman, Reeves portrayed the character again. Reeves was neither the first
nor the last film Superman, of course. Kirk Alyn preceded him, while Christopher
Reeve and many others have followed. Reeves was never able to shake off being
typecast as Superman; the television show ran until he was 44 years old. His death
by gunshot wound on June 16, 1959, was officially ruled a suicide, but suspicions
of murder have persisted. Chipped along edges of frame and at corners. Shirt
exhibits yellowing and staining. Fine condition.
The legendary comedian and actor and two others sign a six-month agreement for the
production and airing of radio broadcasts starring Fields.

times on page 3 and once on page 4, 4p, 8½x13, separate sheets, bound together onto 9x13¾
blue legal sheet (imprinted "Stephen Monteleone/Attorney and Counsellor at Law/Petroleum
Securities Building/Flower Street at Tenth/Los Angeles)". Los Angeles, California, 1932
November 11. This agreement, which is for a period of six months (November 11,
1932-May 11, 1933), states that Fields, who "possesses special, unique and unusual ability as an
artist", Cleary, "skilled and experienced in arranging for the production of any such performances
[by Fields] and the disposal of the same for use over the radio", and Towne, who "possesses
unique ability in the presentation of original stories and plays to be used [by Fields] in
broadcasting the same over the radio", agree to collaborate on radio performances. Fields is
to be paid 60%, Cleary will receive 20% and Towne will be given 20% of net profits and
royalties.

signature. Photographer's imprint, "Gessford/238 Fifth Ave./N.Y.", at lower
mount. William Frederick Cody (1846-1917) was a rider for the Pony Express
in 1860, a scout for the Kansas Cavalry against the Indians (1863) and served in
the U.S. Army in the Civil War (1863-1865). From 1867-1868, he furnished buffalo
meat for the Union Pacific Railroad construction crews, earning his nickname,
"Buffalo Bill". Cody was a scout for the 5th U.S. Cavalry from 1868-1872 and in
1876. From 1872-1883, he was on stage as an actor at first in E.Z.C. Judson's
play, Scouts of the Plains. He organized Buffalo Bill's Wild West Show in
1883 and toured the United States and Europe successfully for over 30 years.

Rare, signed photograph of the Hungarian composer
Photograph signed: "F Liszt," 5x7. In 1865, Franz Liszt (1811-1886) joined the Franciscans,
earned the title Abbe, and began teaching piano and composition. He would, in a few years,
enter the period in his life he called “vie trifurquee” (1869-1886). Liszt termed this interval his
“three-pronged life” because he lived in and travelled between Rome, Italy, Weimar Germany
and Budapest, Hungary. During this period, the respected maestro wrote the bulk of his
compositions, which eventually totaled over 700 works. A child prodigy at the piano, Liszt
began his career as a composter in Weimar, where he was appointed court music conductor in
1842. He then focused on religious music and composed 14 symphonic poems, including Les
Preludes, Orpheus and A Faust Symphony. Fine condition. Frame worn at corners. Framed
to an overall size of 17x27.

Montibone, 6½ x 8½, 11¾ x 17 photograph and mount overall. Puccini was in Rome preparing
for the European debut, on January 11, 1919, of his opera, Il trittico. This was a trilogy of three
one-act operas including Il tabarro, Suor Angelica and Gianni Schicchi. Photograph is creased
and toned. Photograph mount creased. Framed to an overall size of 24½ x 27.
Giacomo Puccini (1858-1924), the greatest Italian opera composer of his time. He wrote
a number of operas, including his three most famous works, La Bohème, Tosca and Madama
Butterfly, while living at Torre Del Lago, the home he had purchased in 1891. Puccini and his
family lived at Torre Del Lago until 1921, and the home became a museum after the death of
Puccini's wife in 1930. Light partial postmark to the right of Puccini's head.
Both sign a contract for Fields' appearance in the play "J. P.
McEvoy's Comic Supplement". Not a standard form contract, this one has been
written with Fields in mind.
Contract signed: "Flo Ziegfeld", "W. C. Fields", 4 pages,
7¼x10½. Also initialed by both at a minor correction: "F.Z.", "W. C. F."
New Amsterdam Theatre, New York, N.Y., 1924 November 10. On Ziegfeld's
personal letterhead, Fields signs his acceptance of a commitment to appear in a
play bearing the temporary title "J. P. McEvoy's Comic Supplement," to be
produced on or before January 15, 1925. Fields is guaranteed top billing in the
play credits and all advertising, and will receive $1, 750 per week for the full
run of the play. He must attend five weeks of rehearsals without compensation.
Clause 5 is of special interest: "You agree to get in touch promptly
after the execution of this agreement with the author of this play, Mr.
McAvoy and to aid and facilitate him and co-operate with him in every matter to
the end that the parts to be assigned to you shall be adapted to your special
talents and ability. You agree to render such services without any
additional compensation." Red-nosed, gravel-voiced, bottle-hitting
American comedian W. C.

Autograph Letter Signed: "Rossini" in Italian, 1p, 4¼ x 5½. No place, no date. To Severini. In
full: "Please send, within today, the portion of the opera La Fata Bianca [The White
Fairy] which has the tenor's role, to Mr. Curioni. All is well." Curioni was the Italian tenor,
Alberico Curioni.By the time he was 18, Gioacchino Rossini (1792-1868) had written his
first opera. The Italian composer is best known for his comic opera, The Barber of Seville,
and his grand opera, William Tell, with its famous overture. The "Overture" to the four-act
William Tell became one of the most familiar of all operatic works when it was used to open the
radio and television show, The Lone Ranger. Guillame Tell was first performed in Paris in 1829.
The Italian composer, the leading representative of the Bel Canto School of Opera and one of
the last masters of opera buffa, spent his later years in Paris and his native Italy. Lightly stained,
lightly creased, with folds. Light ink transfer from a different letter. Ink smudging present on
some letters. Framed to an overall size of 32½ x 24½.

(1898-1981, born in New York City), who became known as the "Toastmaster General of
the United States" for his frequent role as Master of Ceremonies at entertainment and political
gatherings, appeared in vaudeville (he was a partner of Eddie Cantor at age 11) and on
Broadway before having a radio show, That's My Kid.
2.) Original Artwork signed “M. Kahn”. 5½ x 9. 2 horizontal creases, otherwise fine condition.
Operatically trained, Madeline Kahn (1942-1999) achieved her greatest successes in manic
comedy roles, earning Best Supporting Actress nominations for Paper Moon (1973) and
Blazing Saddles (1974). She garnered a Golden Globe nomination for her short-lived TV
sitcom, Oh, Madeline! (1983) and won a Tony for her performance in The Sisters Rosenzweig
(1992).
3.) Original Artwork signed “BETTE”. 5¼ x 8¼. Fine condition. Midler is a Grammy and
Emmy Award-winning singer, and stage and film actress known for her vibrant personality
on and offstage.
5x3 card signed by at least 5 members of the Winter Dance Party tour which claimed
Buddy's life in 1959, framed with Holly's Greatest Hits album.
Signatures: "Buddy Holly" in pencil and "Frankie Sardo" and, on verso, "Dion", "Carl
Bunch/Drums/Crickets", and an unidentified signer in pencil, and in blue ink "Dion",
"To/Elliott/Love =/Debbie/Stevens", 5x3 card. Framed with an album cover for Buddy
Holly's Greatest Hits. Holly had written many of the songs featured on the album, including
"Peggy Sue", "That'll Be the Day" and "Maybe Baby". Holly, who was graduated from
Lubbock High School in 1955, was recording for Decca Records within a year. Born on
September 7, 1936 in Lubbock, Texas as Charles Hardin Holley, the future recording star
became known as "Buddy". His first record contract dropped the "e" in Holley, and
he adopted the spelling. Before going to Lubbock High School, Holly had attended
Lubbock's J.T. Hutchinson Junior High, where he met Bob Montgomery. The duo quickly
became known for their musical talent and lack of stage fright.

LENNON (1940-1980) and MAY PANG lived, loved and worked together. During the
Lennon-Yoko Ono separation and at Ono's instigation, their young, personal assistant
became his constant companion. Deeply emotional and trying "to find himself", Lennon
worked diligently to create the songs for his 1974 album Walls and Bridges, in which he
dedicated one song to Ono and "Surprise Surprise" to his lover. Old friend Elton John sang
