Typed letter signed "Burl Ives". 1 page, 8½x11, two binder holes at Addressed to the Screen Actors Guild, Inc., Hollywood, California. top edge. New York City, June 29, 1948. In part: "I hereby request that you grant MCA ARTISTS, LTD. a waiver accepting the SAG management contracts between MCA Artists, Ltd. and myself dated February 1, 1948 as having been duly filed for any and all purposes and your approving and agreeing to said management contract...". Lightly toned and creased. Staple holes and rust stains in top left corner. Random ink marks. Folded once and unfolded. Otherwise in fine condition. Accompanied by: 3 pages of typed letters. 8½x11, single-sided, two binder holes at top, carbon copies. Dated Feb. 1, 1948 and July 6, 1948. Letters from MCA to Ives and the Screen Actors Guild. Lightly toned and creased. Pencil marks in unknown hand. Staple holes and rust stains at top edge. Light dent at right edge. Carbon copy marks. Otherwise in fine condition. Ives (1909-1995, born Burle Icle Ivanhoe in Hunt, Illinois)was both an Academy and Golden Globe winner for Best Actor (The Big Country, 1958) and a popular balladeer (Itty Bitty Tear, My Funny Way of Laughing, Have a Holly Jolly Christmas). His feature film credits include Smoky (1946, his debut), East of Eden (1955), Cat on a Hot Tin Roof (1958, as Big Daddy), Desire Under the Elms (1959, as Ephraim Cabot), Let No Man Write My Epitaph (1960), Summer Magic (1963), The Brass Bottle and Ensign Pulver (both 1964), and Ives also starred in two popular television miniseries, Captains and the Kings (1976) and Roots (1977), as well as a number of made-for-television movies, including the animated holiday favorite, Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer (1964). Early in his career, Ives was also heard on the radio series The Wayfaring Stranger, and he later appeared in the TV series OK Crackerby (1965) and The Bold Ones: The Lawyers (1969).
