Hulce starred in the film as the composer Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart. Amadeus, which won a total of eight academy awards including Best Pitcure, Best Director, and Best Adapted Screenplay. This film was based on the Broadway play, which starred Tim Curry as Mozart. Interestingly, Hulce was nominated for an Academy Award for his performance as Mozart and Curry was nominated for a Tony for his. Neither man won. Tom Hulce (b. 1953) is best known for his over-the-top (and Oscar-nominated) performance as Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart in Amadeus(1984). Hulce, who has appeared in dozens of movies and TV shows since 1975, started out as a stage actor. He has several Broadway plays to his credit, including the original Broadway production of A Few Good Men (1989-1991) and a replacement role as Alan Strang in Equus (1974-1976). He also produced the musical Spring Awakening(2006-2009), which won a Tony for Best Musical. Disney fans may recognize Hulce's voice as that of Quasimodo from The Hunchback of Notre Dame(1996) and the 2002 direct-to-video sequel, while comedy fans may recognize him as freshman Larry Kroger, aka Pinto, from National Lampoon's Animal House (1978).
