In full: "Thank you very much for your last letter of 11th July and for sending two more copies. I think they are very good ones. I am sending you a list with the names and addresses of a few English Airmen which you might like to have. Most of them were awarded the Victoria Cross. My exact birth date is 7th September, 1917 and I obtained my flying licence in 1939. With kindest regards, Yours sincerely". Enclosure not present. Geoffrey Leonard Cheshire (1917-1992), a Royal Air Force bomber pilot, completed 100 missions as a Wing Commander from June 1940-July 1944. He was awarded the Victoria Cross in 1944 for "sustained bravery" throughout an unprecedented four tours of operations. Cheshire was the British observer on the camera plane accompanying Bock's Car on its atomic bomb mission over Nagasaki. He was created Baron Cheshire of Woodhall in 1991. Lightly creased with folds, light vertical fold at the "ire" of Cheshire. Fine condition.
