Doris Kearns Goodwin (b. 1943) earned her Ph.D. from Harvard University where she then taught for ten years as a Professor of Government. After she was asked by President Johnson to help write his memoirs, Kearns visited Johnson in the White House and at the LBJ Ranch. In 1976, three years after LBJ's death, she published her first book, Lyndon Johnson and the American Dream. Kearns married writer Richard Goodwin in 1975. Her husband, an advisor to John and Robert Kennedy, helped her to gain access to people and papers for her story on the Kennedy family. The Kennedys & The Fitzgeralds was made into a six-hour miniseries that aired on ABC in 1990. She was awarded the 1995 Pulitzer Prize in History for her book No Ordinary Time: Franklin and Eleanor Roosevelt: The American Homefront During World War II. A long-time lover of baseball, Doris Kearns Goodwin wrote about her own memories of growing up a Brooklyn Dodgers fan in Wait Till Next Year: Summer Afternoons with My Father and Baseball. Doris Kearns Goodwin is a regular commentator on television and radio, many times called upon as a presidential historian. The award winning film Lincoln (2012) was in part based on Goodwin's book Team of Rivals: The Political Genius of Abraham Lincoln. Fine condition.
