Alfred J. Wells (1814-1867) was born in Dagsboro, Delaware. Admitted to
the bar in 1827, he commenced practicing law in Ithaca, New York. Wells served
as district attorney of Tompkins County, New York (1845-1847) and judge of
Tompkins County Court (1847-1851), before being elected to the U.S. House of
Representatives as a Republican from New York. He served in the seat from
March 4, 1859 to March 3, 1861. After leaving office, Wells was assessor of
internal revenue of Ithaca, New York (1862-1867). Irregularly cut at bottom
edge. Lightly toned. Otherwise, fine condition.
