AMERICATHON MOVIE CAST. JOHN RITTER & DICK SCHAAL
The cast from the film Americathon sign their names on this black and white still photo from the 1979 movie
Printed photograph signed in ink: "John Ritter" and "Dick Schall". B/w, 10x8 overall, image 9½x6 (one surface). Movie still from the film Americathon, ©1979, Lorimar Productions. In this comedy, America is in a financial crisis and a telethon is held to help raise money. Ritter portrays President Chet Roosevelt and Schaal plays his senior Vice-Presidential aide. JOHN Ritter (1948-2003), the son of Western music stars Tex Ritter and Dorothy Fay, had minor film roles until his Emmy-winning Jack Tripper on Three's Company (1977-1984). Although he made several films, showing he could handle drama as well as comedy with Sling Blade (1996) and Panic (2000), his real forte was TV comedy. His later shows included Hooperman (1987-1989), Hearts Afire (1992-1995) and Eight Simple Rules for Dating My Teenage Daughter (2002-2003). He was taken ill on the Simple Rules set, dying of heart complications on September 11, 2003. In 1960, RICHARD Schaal (1928-2014) joined the eventually-to-be-famous Second City improvisational troupe. After stints in London and New York, he married Broadway dancer Valerie Harper (they later divorced) and rejoined the Second City in a limited run. Schaal began a TV and movie career that included over 200 television shows -- among them Bob Newhart, Trapper John, M.D., and Rhoda -- and a dozen films, including The Russians are Coming! The Russians Are Coming!, Slaughterhouse Five and Hollywood Nights. He also taught improvisational theater at the New School in New York and in Los Angeles. Fine condition.
