1912/Willis Van Devanter", 3¼x1¾ mounted to a 3¾x2¾ card. Van Devanter
(1859-1941) was appointed to the Supreme Court by President Taft in 1910,
serving until 1937. A staunch opponent of increased government regulation of
the economy, he was part of majorities which found early "New Deal initiatives"
of President Franklin Roosevelt unconstitutional. Van Devanter did not write
many opinions, but his thorough knowledge of federal law was tapped by other
Justices. Lightly soiled. Otherwise, fine condition.
