Typed Letter Signed: “M.H. McIntyre”. 6¼x9¼. Dated February 16, 1937. One page. Sent to W.H. Hauser, Esq., in St. Louis, Missouri. In Full: Your very nice letter of February sixth has been received by the President and he is greatly pleased to have the word of approval which it conveys. He asks me to thank you ever so much for your kindly thought in writing as you did.” Journalist Marvin Hunter McIntyre (1878-1943) served ascity editor of the Washington Post and Editor of the Washington Star before becoming the United States Navy's Publicity Director during World War I. In this capacity he met Franklin Roosevelt, Assistant Secretary of the Navy. This began a long association with FDR: heworked on Roosevelt's campaigns for Vice President (unsuccessful), Governor of New York, and President. He joined the Roosevelt White House as Appointments Secretary, and - after an absence caused by illness - as Corresponding Secretary, serving until his death.Mailing creases. Lightly toned.
