Printed card signed in ink: "Robert Laird
Collier/Chicago/Ill./April 5, 1869", in black ink, 5x2¾. Robert Collier
(1876-1918) was the son of Peter F. Collier, who was the founder of
Collier's magazine. In its earlier years, the magazine was known
as Collier's Weekly with its first issue in 1888. The
magazine went under in 1957, but was revived in 2012 with a new and
revamped issue. In its original form, the magazine was launched as "fiction,
fact, sensation, wit, humor and news". Pioneering the term "Investigative
Journalism", Robert Collier was made a full-time partner in 1898.
When Robert died, he left the magazine to three of his friends. Heavily toned.
