ALEXANDER KNOX
This black and white publicity photograph from the film Wilson depicts the actor in the title role shaking hands with soldiers
Photograph signed: "Alexander Knox." B/w, 10x8 overall, image 9½x7 (one surface). Publicity still from Darryl F. Zanuck's Wilson, the film that Knox is best known for. Zanuck was the president of production company 20th Century Fox at the time this was made and the film was his pet project. Although the film was critically acclaimed, it flopped in the box office. Captioned at lower margin. Canadian actor Alexander Knox (1907-1995) was best known for his portrayal of American President Woodrow Wilson in this biopic. Knox won the 1944 Best Actor Golden Globe Award for his performance and was nominated in the same Oscar category. Knox made his American debut in 1941 in The Sea Wolf and gave an outstanding performance in This Above All (1942) before making Wilson. Knox appeared in a number of other feature films, including The Longest Day (1962), You Only Live Twice (1967) and Gorky Park (1983), as well as made-for-television films including Tinker, Tailor, Soldier, Spy (1979) and Helen Keller: The Miracle Continues (1984). Ink note on verso (no show through). Lightly creased. Otherwise, fine condition.
