Dan BROWN's novel The DaVinci Code (2003), which posited a secret
history of Jesus and a new meaning of the Holy Grail legend, had been translated
into 44 languages and sold over 60 million copies as of mid-2006. The novel
sparked anger and rebuttals from many Christian groups, and helped trigger a
craze for fiction and nonfiction books featuring secret societies and mysteries
of the past. It also led to an (unsuccessful) London lawsuit by the authors of
an allegedly nonfiction work on the same subject, Holy Blood, Holy Grail.
Ron HOWARD directed the 2006 film. Tom HANKS, as art historian
Robert Langdon; and Audrey TAUTOU, as a French cryptologist who doesn't
know her own importance, head the talented international cast. Fine
