COTTONSEED CLARK and LOU CROSBY
Both sign this document agreeing to perform in an audition for a series of radio programs
Document signed: "Cottonseed Clark Fulks" and "Lou Crosby" both in blue ink, 5p, 7¼x10½. Los Angeles, California, 1944 January 22. On letterhead of Columbia Broadcasting System, Inc., Pacific Network. Signed on page 5. Crosby and Clark agree to furnish their services, and those of Linda Hayes, Walter Brennan, and Andy Devine as performers, with Paul Franklin as producer and writer, for an audition for a proposed series of radio programs. Furthermore, permission is given to CBS to present the audition to potential commercial sponsors. CBS agrees to supply an orchestra, engineer, announcer, and other support facilities for the audition that was to be held in Los Angeles no later than January 28, 1944. The document also provides details of compensation to the performers if CBS is successful in finding sponsors. COTTONSEED CLARK was the host of several country and Western musical variety shows on radio in the 1940s, including Hollywood Barn Dance and All-Star Western Theater (1945-1947). He also appeared in at least one film Smoky River Serenade (1947). LOU CROSBY (1913-1984) was a popular radio actor and announcer for the long-running country-oriented radio variety show, Lum & Abner. He appeared in a few films of the late 1940s, including Gene Autry's The Last Roundup (1947). In the 1950s, he became even better known as announcer for The Lawrence Welk Show. Linda HUNT starred in Republic Pictures movies (1939-1942), retiring from acting when she married Lou Crosby. The Crosbys are the parents of actress/athlete Cathy Lee Crosby. Walter BRENNAN and Andy DEVINE were, of course, popular actors, often in Western roles. Staple holes and paper clip impression at upper left. Small ink spot at bottom edge of signature page. Otherwise, fine condition.
