STAN KENTON and BARBARA WHITING
Autograph Notes on opposite sides of a sheet, signed in blue crayon pencil
Photograph signed in blue crayon pencil: "Thank you George/See you later", 7x5, and on verso "To George,/Thanks for the ride on the 'Smile Train'/Best Wishes Always/Barbara Whiting". B/w newspaper photo of each signer affixed on their respective sides. Originally a pianist in dance bands of the 1930s, STAN KENTON (1911-1979) formed his own orchestra in 1941, and began displaying his talents as a band leader and arranger. Before long, he was scoring radio and record hits, especially after vocalist June Christie joined his band. His theme song was "Artistry in Rhythm". Kenton remained a creative force in the industry, winning Grammy awards in 1962 and 1963 and experimenting with blends of jazz and classical music (Kenton Plays Wagner) and unusual rhythms (Adventures in Time). Actress BARBARA WHITING (1931-2004), the daughter of composer Richard A. Whiting and sister of singer/actress Margaret Whiting, is best known for starring in the film and subsequent radio versions of Junior Miss. Whiting, who made her debut in that film in 1945, went on to appear in several other features through 1955, and she also guest starred on several TV shows, including Dragnet, The Public Defender and Fireside Theatre. In 1955 and 1957, Barbara and Margaret starred in the TV series, Those Whiting Girls, which was a summer replacement for I Love Lucy. Left edge frayed from previous binding. Toned. Soiled near left edge. Signatures light and lightly beaded but legible. Otherwise, fine condition.
