BILL CRIVELLO
He writes a three paged biography of Miriam Colon for publication in Daniel Blum's Theatre World
Typed letter signed: "Bill Crivello," 4 pages, 8½x11, last page a short letter intended for Blum. Hollywood, California, March 23, 1961. To Daniel Blum, founder of Theatre World, New York City. In part: "The theatre world has attracted some very well-trained people but few have received their training as unusually as lovely, almond-eyed, Miriam Colon. Miriam actually completed her dramatic studies before finishing high school. During that time she led two lives: by day a high school, afternoons and evenings, an unofficial college student. This highly unconventional event came about when a drama teacher spotted Miriam's superior acting in a school play. Her performance so impressed the head of the drama department of the University of Puerto Rico that he invited her to attend classes there as an observer, Soon she was permitted to act in their productions. She later performed with the University's permanent theater and also toured throughout Puerto Rico doing leading roles with their traveling theatre." Bill Crivello was an acting agent, working in press relations in Los Angeles California during the 1960's. His client, Miriam Colon (b.1936) is a Puerto Rican actress who has been working in film and television for over 50 years, including Scarface (1983), Guiding Light (1952), One Life to Live (1968), How to Make it in America (2010-2011), and most recently The Southside (2013). DANIEL BLUM founded Theatre World in 1945, serving as its chief editor until his death in 1964. Aided by Norman McDonald and John A. Willis (his successor as chief editor), Blum also conceived what would become the prestigious Theatre World Awards for promising new actors in the New York stage, Broadway and later off-Broadway as well. Creased and toned. Otherwise, fine condition.
