Faint horizontal crease runs through signature. Lightly toned. Otherwise, fine condition. Clipped fragment from letter: To “Dear Mr. Croxford”. In full:I am very honored at being invited to send you my autograph, and this I do with very real pleasure.” Irregularly cut. Adhesive remnants on verso. Sparsely stained. Otherwise, fine condition. Dame Irene Mary Bewick Ward (1895-1980) was a Conservative politician who served in the British Parliament. She was elected to the House of Commons in 1931 and by the time she retired, Ward had served almost 38 years. Ward is remembered for introducing what became the Right of Entry Act (1954), and actively promoted both the Nurses Act (1961) and the Penalties for Drunkenness Act (1962). Beginning in 1964, she was a member of the Public Accounts Committee. In 1975, she was honored by being created life peer as Baroness Ward of North Tyneside. Two items.
