Inscribed Signature: "For Henry Slapinski/Francis D. Moore", 6x4. The Harvard Medical Faculty voted a resolution declaring Francis D. Moore (1913-2001) "the most powerful force in American Surgery during the second half of the twentieth century." As Surgeon-in-Chief at Boston's Peter Bent Brigham Hospital (1949-1976), he greatly influenced medical progress through his research and writings on transplantation and on metabolic care of surgery patients. He laid the groundwork for the first successful transplant of a human organ (a kidney) in 1954, a breakthrough which won a 1990 Nobel Prize for Dr. Joseph Murray of Brigham. Dr. Moore was a consultant to the US Surgeon General, the National Institute of Health and NASA, among others. His memoir, A Miracle and a Privilege, one of his six books and hundreds of articles, was published in 1995. Light surface creases. Pencil note (unknown hand). Stains in center of card. Corners slightly worn and creased. Otherwise, fine condition.
