Sincerely, [signature]".Graham McNamee (1888-1942) was America's most popular radio announcer in the first decades of the new medium. He began as a staff announcer at WEAF, New York, and later became a national broadcaster for NBC Radio. Early radio sports reporting was done mostly by a rotating pool of print journalists dryly reporting the action. McNamee became the first "color commentator," intent on making events exciting for listeners. His broadcasts included World Series, Rose Bowls, political conventions, Presidential inaugurations, and celebrity events like Lindbergh's homecoming parade in New York City. He broadcast the "long count" of the Dempsey-Tunney championship bout of 1927 and Babe Ruth's "called home run" in the 1932 World Series. In 1925 listeners voted him America's most popular announcer.
