LT. COLONEL EDWARD J. SAYLOR
The Doolittle Raider signs black and white photo (4x6) picturing him in uniform
Photograph signed: "Edward Saylor", B/w, 4x6. Retired Air Force Lieutenant Colonel Edward J. Saylor (1920-2015) was born and raised in Montana. After joining the military in 1939, he flew in plane No. 15 of Doolittle's Raiders. Saylor took off in a B-25 Mitchell bomber from the U.S.S. Hornet for a daring raid over Japan on April 18, 1942. Led by James "Jimmy" Doolittle, the raid, which marked the first time fully loaded bombers took off from an aircraft carrier, was in retaliation for Japan's surprise attack on Pearl Harbor."Doolittle's Raiders" hit targets in Tokyo, Yokohama and other cities and scored a huge victory for U.S. morale at a time when Japan's position in the Pacific seemed impregnable. Saylor's plane crashed off the coast of China and he and five crew members made their way ashore and then walked over 100 miles before being rescued. After serving for the remainder of WWII, he worked as an aircraft maintenance officer and regularly speaks about his experiences as a Doolittle Raider. Fine condition.
