Signature: "Rohan de Saram" in blue ink. 5x3¼ card, featuring 1¼x1¾ photo. Rohan de Saram (b. 1939) is a British-born, Sri Lankan cellist. An accomplished cellist at a very early age, de Saram went to Siena and Florence at the age of 11 to study with Gaspar Cassado, and at the age of 16 he was the first winner of the Guilhermina Suggia Award, enabling him to study with Sir John Barbirolli and Pablo Casals. De Saram became a very accomplished performer as an adult, notably working as a classical artist until his thirties, but since becoming renowned for his involvement in and advocacy of contemporary music. He founded the de Saram Clarinet Trio with his brother, and is one of relatively few new music interpreters to have explored the world of improvisation. Toned. Corners rounded. Slightly soiled.
