The skilled musicians sign this peach-colored album leaf
Signatures: "Dalton Baldwin", in blue ink on front and "R. Owens", in black ink on verso, 5¾x4. Clipping featuring a mini biography of Ovens adhered with tape to verso. Newspaper clipping announcing Ovens' move to Canada included. DALTON BALDWIN (1931-2019) is a collaborative pianist. He attended the Julliard School before training at the Oberlin Conservatory of Music, earning his bachelor's degree in music from the latter. An exponent of the work of French composer Gabriel Fauré, Baldwin has played on over 100 recordings. He has also won an impressive number of prizes; many were for his recordings with Gérard Souzay, whom he accompanied for more than 30 years. A few of his additional notable collaborations were with the following singers: Arleen Auger, Jessye Norman , and Elly Ameling. RAYMOND OVENS (b. 1932) is a violinist who began playing at the age of eight. After appearing in various concerts and performances in his hometown, Ovens won a scholarship to attend the Royal Academy of Music. In 1952, he joined the London Symphony Orchestra. Ovens then went on to join the Boyd Neel Orchestra and the London Mozart Players before studying for a year in Lisbon with Maxim Jacobson. Upon his return to England he became a member of the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra. In 1965, he became Deputy Leader of the City of Birmingham Symphony Orchestra. Two years later, Ovens moved with his family to Canada to serve as concert master of the Symphony Orchestra of Victoria. Light show-through to front of tape adhered to verso. Staples used to attach clipping to verso poke through to front, not affecting signature. Left edge irregular from being neatly torn from album. Otherwise, fine condition. Two items.
