Document Multi-Signed: "E G Marshall", 1p, 8½x11. Also initialed twiceon two riders: "E G M". Hollywood, California, 1958 July 31. Marshall accepts $5,000 in payment, plus transportation from New York to L.A., for an appearance on CBS Television's Playhouse 90 on September 25, 1958. One rider (8½x2) assures Marshall of co-star billing, no less than fourth position; the other (8½x5½) stipulates that he will be paid for re-runs at the standard AFTRA rate. E. G. Marshall (1910-1998) who made his film debut in 1945, starred in a number of films, but is perhaps best known for his television roles. He won two Emmys for his portrayal of attorney Lawrence Preston on The Defenders, telecast on CBS from 1961-1965, and later appeared on The Bold Ones. On film he was the prosecutor in The Caine Mutiny (1954) and a juror in Twelve Angry Men (1957). He narrated many documentaries and played the President of the US in Superman II (1980). Marshall was a mainstay of the televised plays of TV's "golden age"; he made four appearances on Playhouse 90. In the performance contracted here, Marshall played Soviet secret police chief Lavrenti Beria in "The Plot to Kill Stalin." Aged, otherwise in fine condition with some edge and corner wear, a staple hole to the upper left corner, two hole punches along the top, broken through to edge, and some staples attaching the Riders to the left edge. Otherwise, fine condition.
