Academy Award for The Sand Pebbles (1966). Among his many other movie hits were The
Magnificent Seven (1960), The Great Escape (1963), The Cincinnati Kid (1965) and Papillon
(1973). He was married to actress Ali MacGraw from 1973-1977. Writing light but legible.

a one-line ink addition in Ziegfeld's hand. Noting that Fields' current Equity
Run-of-the-Play Contract for J. P. McEvoy's "Comic Supplement" expires on June
1, 1925, Fields agrees to extend his commitment after that date at the rate of
$1,750 per week, provided that Fields is successful through the Actors Equity
Association in getting released from a conflicting commitment with Phillip
Goodman. Fields' weekly salary is to rise to $2,000 per week if "Comic
Supplement" should continue running into 1926. Red-nosed, gravel-voiced,
bottle-hitting American comedian W. C. FIELDS (1880-1946), born William
Claude Dukenfield, began his career in silents, later excelling in such films
as David Copperfield (as Micawber), My Little Chickadee (with Mae
West) and The Bank Dick. The vaudeville veteran, who
appeared in every version of the "Ziegfeld Follies" from 1915 to 1921,

(1911-1937) American actress Jean Harlow, the daughter of a dentist, eloped at 16 with a
young businessman. The newlyweds settled in Los Angeles, where the bride soon found work
as an extra in films. In between parts in features she was displayed more prominently in Hal
Roach shorts, notably "Double Whoopee" (1928) with Laurel and Hardy. In 1929 she obtained
a divorce and committed herself to a film career. Opportunity came with Howard Hughes when
she was cast in his 1927 movie "Hell's Angels". After a slow start, she was cast opposite stars
like Spencer Tracy and Clark Gable and became a superstar. Known for her platinum blonde
hair, she appeared in such films as: Dinner at Eight, Red Dust, Riffraff, Libeled Lady, The Public
Enemy, Reckless, China Seas and Personal Property.

Barry" as Notary Public. Romantic film leading man Rudolph Valentino
(1895-1926), born Rodolpho Alphonso Raffaelo Pierre Filibert Guglielmi di
Valentina d'Antonguolla, signed this request in 1924 for the Famous
Players-Lasky Corporation (later Paramount) to remit his earnings to his
wife, former actress Natasha Rambova. At this time, Valentino was filming
Monsieur Beaucaire, his first film after settling his 1922 contract
dispute with Jesse Lasky. Valentino's main issue involved his salary in
comparison to a lesser star at Paramount. His "mere pittance" of $1,250 weekly
was one-third the example he gave, and, as Valentino pointed out, the studio
made millions in profits from The Sheik (1921) and Blood and Sand
(1922).

In full, with grammatical errors and misspellings: "I realy am ashamed
to think that I neglected to write you. and send our sincere regrets to dear
Allice. But when I think it all over, I feel that God does things for our own
good and the poorer Boy is better off and happier than he was away from his
little Wife and Baby. The dear little photo is so cute. I would love to see you
all again. Fern is feeling better and is in an office 35oo per week &
percentage. And we hope that her Mother will strike oil on her farm. 5 wells on
2 next farms all paying. I havent been well. 5 weeks in N.Y.C. and only got one
dress made. We sail in 5 minutes so must see & mail this. Bushels of love to
all from both." Annie Oakley (1860-1926) was born Phoebe Anne Oakley
Mozee in Ohio. She was the sixth of eight children. At the age of nine she
began to shoot rabbits and quail and was almost a dead shot from the first.
Within five years, she was a breadwinner for her family as a markswoman.
Original Prohibition-era W.C. Fields comedy sketch.
Manuscript Comedy Sketch titled and signed: "One of the six best Cellars/By/W.C. Fields",
13¼p, 6x8¼, separate sheets. No place, no date. The 18th Amendment to the U.S.
Constitution went into effect on January 16, 1920. As of that date, "the manufacture, sale,
or transportation of intoxicating liquors within, the importation thereof into, or the
exportation thereof from the United States and all territory subject to the jurisdiction thereof
for beverage purposes is hereby prohibited." Prohibition is the topic of this comedy sketch,
One of the Six Best Cellars, which is written with a bit of satire. The phrase "six best
cellars" was an expression first used in 1920 referring to the best hideaways where liquor
was stored during Prohibition. The phrase was used in a "Los Angeles Herald" story on
December 8, 1920 stating that actress Mabel Normand, known to be a heavy drinker, had one
of the "six best cellars" of Prohibition liquor in the Hollywood film colony. Although not
dated, this comedy sketch was likely written during the Prohibition era. In the early 1920s
Fields wrote many comedy sketches while performing in New York's vaudeville, most
notably in the Ziegfeld Follies.
Rare, signed, sepia-toned photograph of Annie Oakley holding a double-barreled
shotgun in a gloved hand. Materials signed by Oakley are extremely rare and desirable!
Photograph mount signed "Annie. Oakley.". B/w sepia-toned, 3¾x5½ photo mounted on a
4¼x6½ card with rounded edges. Cabinet card photograph by Baker's Art Gallery, Columbus,
Ohio. Oakley (1860-1926, born Phoebe Anne Moses in Darke County, Ohio), was born to a
Quaker family and began to shoot rabbits and quail at age nine. Within five years, she was a
breadwinner for her family as a markswoman, and, at age 15, she saved her family's farm
with income she had earned from shooting game. On August 23, 1876, at age 16, Annie
married Frank Butler, a vaudeville performer who became her partner. Annie's self-effacing
personality (on and off stage) made her a popular performer. In 1885, the Butlers joined
Buffalo Bill Cody's Wild West Show, where Annie was a star for 17 years. The
five-foot-tall Oakley got her name "Little Sure Shot" from Sitting Bull and used it in
her promotional materials. In 1901, she and her husband decided to retire from public life.
However, shooting was in her blood, and the Butlers continued to make appearances around
the country.
Oakley handwrote, dated and signed this letter to a friend in 1909, describing life on the road
as a trick shootist. This letter sheds light on how she viewed the life of a traveling performer.

Postmarked Owensboro, KY, May 10, 1901. In 1895, Cody began moving
cattle to Wyoming. He received a large herd from his friend and hunting
companion, Mike Russell. The herd wore the TE brand. Thus Cody named his ranch
the TE Ranch. The TE was once rated at 4600 acres, but Cody added other ranches
to it and the conglomerate was considered his Big Horn Basin Holdings. He was
about 50 when he bought the TE and he considered it a haven from the world. To
Mattie & Eli. In full: "The wild west show doing big. Now my
dear good friends-the next two months you have got lots to do-hire plenty men-to
get the crops in-plow lots of new ground-get in every acre you can-Make a good
big garden-clean up all the deadwood in the timber pasturers (sic)-And
plant grass seed among the trees-don't cut any green bushes or trees. Keep it
for shelter-Make flower bed around house-Mrs Cody coming in July. She likes

name, birthplace, address, and occupation. In 1954, Garbo was awarded a Special
Academy Award "for her unforgettable screen performances" in films such as Anna
Christie, Anna Karenina, Camille and Ninotchka. After four Oscar nominations, she
retired in 1941 at the age of 36. A millionaire many times over, Garbo had no need to act, nor
any desire to conduct an active social life. Even after her death in 1990, the legend of Garbo
was undiminished. To her devotees, she was not so much film legend as film goddess. Lightly

W.C. Fields (1879-1946) began entertaining as an amusement park juggler
at the age of fourteen. He was a vaudeville headliner before he was twenty and
toured Europe in 1901, giving a command performance at Buckingham Palace.

Olaf Wieghorst (1899-1988), is best known for his poignant paintings of the American West.
His work graced calendars and illustrated magazines, and commanded good prices from art
collectors. Many of his pieces are on display at the Olaf Wieghorst Museum in El Cajon, near
San Diego. Wieghorst was a circus stunt rider in Denmark before emigrating to the US at age
19, and he appeared in two John Wayne movies.
Signatures of Cody, Longstreet and other prominent Chicagoans of the era, collected
on both sides of a 6x4 sheet in 1899.

buffalo as a hired hunter in 1867 and 1868. Cody had begun his wild west career herding
cattle at age nine. Five years later, he became the Pony Express' youngest rider. Throughout the
Civil War, Cody worked as a government scout, extracting from life and the West all it had to
offer. His western notoriety grew with his adventures, including those during the Sioux War, in
which he purportedly fought a duel with Chief Yellow Hand. Cody's theatrical career was
launched that same year with his re-enactments of such Indian battles. By 1883, he formed his
first Wild West spectacle, becoming a master showman who toured internationally until
1903.
Out of character but not out of extravagance, the "sure-shot" poses
in an extraordinary "Indian Princess" garb, hand-made with the feathers of her
prized kills for a Valentine's Day Masquerade. Winning the costume contest that
night, Oakley again demonstrates versatility and creative ingenuity, and this
rare and exclusive photo captures it all. Signed and dated in her script, with
pencil note in her hand on verso. This whimsical photo, not shot for publicity,
was probably gifted to a family member or dear friend. Extremely Rare!

costume with feathered head dress, gazing at the horizon. Annie Oakley
(1860-1926) was born Phoebe Anne Oakley Mozee in Ohio. She was the sixth of
eight children. At the age of nine she began to shoot rabbits and quail and was
almost a dead shot from the first. Within five years, she was a breadwinner
for her family as a markswoman. In 1876, at age 16, she married Frank Butler, a
vaudeville performer who became her partner. Annie's self-effacing
personality (on and off stage) made her a popular performer. In 1885, the
Butlers joined Buffalo Bill Cody's Wild West Show. Annie, a star with the show
for 17 years, charmed Kings and Queens.

translated. Best known for playing the "Man of Steel" on film and on television,
George Reeves (1914-1959), born George Bessolo, made his film debut in 1939. Reeves
played Stuart Tarleton, one of the Scarlett O'Hara's hopeful beaus, in David O. Selznick's Civil
War epic, Gone With the Wind. Making an excellent impression in that role, in 1940, Reeves
was cast in 17 films, including Knute Rockne, All American, Virginia City, The Fighting 69th,
'Til We Meet Again, Pony Express Days and Meet the Fleet. Shown with his girlfriend, played
by Jan Clayton, and her unwelcoming father (Grant Mitchell), Father is a Prince (1940).
Reeves' career took a fateful turn when he was cast as Superman/Clark Kent in 1951's
Superman and the Mole Men, a role he reprised in the 1953-1957 television series.
Reeves' death by gunshot wound on June 16, 1959, was officially ruled a suicide, but
suspicions of murder have persisted. Minor chips on frame. Framed to an overall size of 36½ x
