Cunningham and (sic, an) old personal friend who wishes to speak to you. If you will give him a hearing. You will greatly oblige." Both NELSON MILES and BILL CODY overlapped in their time of military service during the western campaigns against the Indians. Cody was Chief Scout for the 5th Cavalry and Miles commanded the 5th Infantry. They served under Philip Sheridan. In 1896, the year of this letter, Cody's Wild West Show was extensively touring and he was also developing his land in Cody, Wyoming; while Miles was Commander in Chief of the Army. Great associations, worthy of further research. Lightly creased. ¾-inch separation at upper left blank horizontal fold. 2-inch separation at lower left horizontal fold touches 1 word (all intact).

JAMES ARNESS This prop badge, an important piece of TV history, was worn by James Arness in his role of U. S. Marshall Matt Dillon on the long-running TV western Gunsmoke. Prop unsigned. 2 x 2½ prop U. S. Marshall badge. With tag on back of frame: "'Gunsmoke'/Ellis Props/Marshall/Badge J.A./1955-1975/CBS", written in unknown hand. Housed in a 12½ x 8¼ x 2 shadow box frame with green and black felt interior. Frame also contains a color photo of Arness in uniform as Marshall Matt Dillon, wearing a prop badge similar to this one, and paper nameplate. This prop badge is a piece of TV history. It's one of several badges worn by Arness as U. S. Matt Dillon in the TV series Gunsmoke during its long 20-year (1955-1975) run. Gunsmoke, based on a radio show of the same name that ran from 1952 to 1961, is the longest-running prime time drama in United States TV history. TOM MARSON and FRANK SINATRA Oversized color photograph of Sinatra with his arm around alleged mob boss Tom Marson, signed by both and inscribed by Marson. It is said that this photograph was given to a close friend of 30 years, Vincent Albanese. It was taken at about the same time as the famous 1976 photograph of Sinatra and several Mafia chieftains taken backstage at the Westchester Premier Theatre. That photograph pictured Sinatra with his arms around Marson and Gregory DePalma. Also pictured were Paul Castellano, Carlo Gambino, Joseph Gambino, Aladena Fratianno, Salvatore Spatola and Richard Fusco. Sinatra's connection to the mafia is documented in Kitty Kelley's His Way. ANNIE OAKLEY Her rare signature on a 4x2½ card, matted and then attached to an 11x16 reproduction of a poster publicizing her show Signature: "Annie Oakley", 4x2½ card. Affixed to a 4¼x2¾ matte which in turn is affixed to a larger matte 11¼x16, which features a reproduction of a poster publicizing her appearance. Sharpshooter Annie Oakley (1860-1926) toured vaudeville circuits and circuses with her husband, Frank Butler, whom she married in 1876 when she was 16. She starred in Buffalo Bill's Wild West Show from 1885-1902. Oakley was called "Little Sure Shot" because she was only five feet tall. On this poster, with six illustrations of her in action, she is called "the peerless wing and rifle shot". Oakley's life story was told in Irving Berlin's 1946 musical, Annie Get Your Gun, currently enjoying a successful revival on Broadway. Her signature is rare in any form. Signature slightly lifted from the matte at its lower edge. Fine condition.

McQueen was nominated for the Best Actor Academy Award for The Sand Pebbles (1966). Among his many other movie hits were The Magnificent Seven (1960), The Great Escape (1963), The Cincinnati Kid (1965) and Papillon (1973). He was married to actress Ali MacGraw from 1973-1977. FIELDS Three-page autograph letter to his mistress Carlotta Monti, signed by Fields as "Continental Claude", calling Hitler "full of mierda" and confiding, "like the three monkeys I see nothing, know nothing, and won't drink anything 'cept Beer." Autograph Letter signed: "Continental Claude", 3 pages, 8½x11. Bel Air, Labor Day. To "Katrinka & Claudia". ["Katrinka" was Fields' pet name for Carlotta Monti.] In full: "I suppose you are wondering why you have not received your packard as yet. And telling your friends I am not a man of my word. Give me time and I can explain anything. Practically all nations will be in the war by the time this missive arrives. But you, unfortunately for yourself contended the whole world would be at war. It was then I accepted your wager 'I'll bet you the whole world will be at war by 1940. If not you give me a packard.' It was a bet made in all fairness. I forget what I was to receive had you lost. However all is fair in something or other and war. I will pay off if it becomes real serious. I firmly believe it will be of short duration, in which case you will receive a small packard.

Beginning as an extra in 1928, Harlow began her rise to stardom in Howard Hughes' sound production of Hell's Angels in 1930. She starred in The Public Enemy and Platinum Blonde in 1931 and proved her comedic talents in such films as Dinner at Eight (1934) and China Seas (1935). Minor surface creases. Slight smudge at "H". Overall, fine condition. Framed to an overall size of 14¾ x 18½. (1911-1937) American actress Jean Harlow, the daughter of a dentist, eloped at 16 with a young businessman. The newlyweds settled in Los Angeles, where the bride soon found work as an extra in films. In between parts in features she was displayed more prominently in Hal Roach shorts, notably "Double Whoopee" (1928) with Laurel and Hardy. In 1929 she obtained a divorce and committed herself to a film career. Opportunity came with Howard Hughes when she was cast in his 1927 movie "Hell's Angels". After a slow start, she was cast opposite stars like Spencer Tracy and Clark Gable and became a superstar.

In 1901, she was severely injured in a railroad wreck that temporarily paralyzed her.

Total price = $2,471.25. The order is contingent on the satisfactory sale of Fields' 1915 Pathfinder touring car, provided by him in partial payment. Two filing holes at left edge. Lightly toned and soiled at edges. "Duplicate" stamp at upper right corner. Upper left corner has small staple holes and is lightly creased. Horizontal mailing folds. Otherwise, fine condition. Accompanied by typed letter (1 page, 8½x11) to Fields from H. M. McCord, dated 1917 January 3, informing him that the Pathfinder has been sold, for a $400 credit toward his purchase price, and assuring him of good service on his new Phaeton. Lightly toned.
OLAF WIEGHORST 10 wonderful pages of sketches by the master artist. Sketch book signed: "Olaf Weighorst". Signed along right edge of cover. 10 pages (bound) of sketches. 3 pages blank. Pen and ink on paper. 9 x 12. ½ inch separation of cover and pages at right binding, ¼ inch separation of cover and pages at left binding, otherwise fine condition. Olaf Wieghorst (1899-1988), is best known for his poignant paintings of the American West. His work graced calendars and illustrated magazines, and commanded good prices from art collectors. Many of his pieces are on display at the Olaf Wieghorst Museum in El Cajon, near San Diego. Wieghorst was a circus stunt rider in Denmark before emigrating to the US at age 19, and he appeared in two John Wayne movies. 
WILLIAM F. CODY, JAMES LONGSTREET and others Signatures of Cody, Longstreet and other prominent Chicagoans of the era, collected on both sides of a 6x4 sheet in 1899. Signatures on both sides of a 6x4 sheet: "W.F. Cody / 'Buffalo Bill'", "Nate Salsbury", "John M. Burke /'Arizona John'", and "Allison Nailor, Jr.". Dated in unknown hand at left: "April 20, 1899." On verso: "Yours Truly/James Longstreet/July 15 '99" and "Ferdinand W. Peck". Fine condition. Framed to an overall size of 40x20. William Frederick Cody earned the name "Buffalo Bill" for killing thousands of buffalo as a hired hunter in 1867 and 1868. Cody had begun his wild west career herding cattle at age nine. Five years later, he became the Pony Express' youngest rider. Throughout the Civil War, Cody worked as a government scout, extracting from life and the West all it had to offer. His western notoriety grew with his adventures, including those during the Sioux War, in which he purportedly fought a duel with Chief Yellow Hand.
GRETA GARBO Garbo filled out and signed this application for a title search on a property in Beverly Hills (1944). Partly Printed DS: "Greta Garbo". 1 page, 8½ x 11. No place, 1944 September 8. Title Insurance Application for use by the Title Company in searching the records in connection with the purchase of property at 603 N. Beverly Drive, Beverly Hills, California. She has filled in her name, birthplace, address, and occupation. In 1954, Garbo was awarded a Special Academy Award "for her unforgettable screen performances" in films such as Anna Christie, Anna Karenina, Camille and Ninotchka. After four Oscar nominations, she retired in 1941 at the age of 36. A millionaire many times over, Garbo had no need to act, nor any desire to conduct an active social life. Even after her death in 1990, the legend of Garbo was undiminished. To her devotees, she was not so much film legend as film goddess. Lightly creased. Fine condition. W. C. FIELDS and FLO ZIEGFELD Both sign a contract for Fields' appearance in the play "J. P. McEvoy's Comic Supplement". Not a standard form contract, this one has been written with Fields in mind. Contract signed: "Flo Ziegfeld", "W. C. Fields", 4 pages, 7¼x10½. Also initialed by both at a minor correction: "F.Z.", "W. C. F." New Amsterdam Theatre, New York, N.Y., 1924 November 10. On Ziegfeld's personal letterhead, Fields signs his acceptance of a commitment to appear in a play bearing the temporary title "J. P. McEvoy's Comic Supplement," to be produced on or before January 15, 1925. Fields is guaranteed top billing in the play credits and all advertising, and will receive $1, 750 per week for the full run of the play. He must attend five weeks of rehearsals without compensation. Clause 5 is of special interest: "You agree to get in touch promptly after the execution of this agreement with the author of this play, Mr. McAvoy and to aid and facilitate him and co-operate with him in every matter to the end that the parts to be assigned to you shall be adapted to your special talents and ability. You agree to render such services without any additional compensation.

Included are the original contract signed by Monty Stratton; his pass to the MGM studios; a baseball signed by 15 cast and crew members; a signed baseball card showing the White Sox pitcher; photos and lobby cards signed by stars James Stewart and June Allyson; a DVD of the movie; a release form signed by Hall of Fame catcher Bill Dickey allowing use of his photo stills from this film; and a souvenir album inscribed by cast and crew to Monty's son Dennis! Stratton is to be paid $500 per week for the length of the contract, one year beginning on the signing date.

Best known for playing the "Man of Steel" on film and on television,George Reeves (1914-1959), born George Bessolo, made his film debut in 1939. Reeves played Stuart Tarleton, one of the Scarlett O'Hara's hopeful beaus, in David O. Selznick's Civil War epic, Gone With the Wind. Making an excellent impression in that role, in 1940, Reeves was cast in 17 films, including Knute Rockne, All American, Virginia City, The Fighting 69th, 'Til We Meet Again, Pony Express Days and Meet the Fleet. ANNIE OAKLEY Oakley handwrote, dated and signed this letter to a friend in 1909, describing life on the road as a trick shootist. This letter sheds light on how she viewed the life of a traveling performer. Autograph Letter signed: "Annie Oakley", 2 pages, 6x9¼. Wilson, North Carolina, 1909 January 13. On letterhead of New Briggs Hotel to "My dear Friend". In full: "I know I am perfectly terrible for neglecting to write and thank you for the beautiful cup & the pretty photo of dear little Verginia [sic]. I surely can appreciate them more than I can tell you. I do hope to see you at Pinehurst. Then we can eat those fine grape fruit for our breakfast. And just have a good old visit. Then you can explain why Mr. McCarty always wins when his little Wife is with him. I gave my first shot yesterday. Had a fine day & about 1500 people, best in Washington. Pouring rain now & it is 11:30 AM. Hope it will clear up. Thanking you again. And with love and every good wish, I am most sincerely."
