LOUIS HAYWARD
Blank employee's questionnaire signed by Hayward in blue ink. Accompanied by
two pages of an unsigned 1941 contract for Hayward to appear in a movie
tentatively titled The Play's The Thing.
Questionnaire signed "Louis Hayward" in blue ink. 1 page, 8¼x10¾.
Titled: "Questionnaire To Be Answered by All Employees/Including
Artists, Writers and Director". This questionnaire includes questions about
marital status, whether the employee filling this out is a United States
resident or a resident of a Nazi-controlled country after Aug. 8, 1940. Lightly
toned and creased. Staple holes in top edge. Otherwise in fine condition.
Accompanied by: 2 pages of an unsigned contract, dated July 2, 1941, for
Hayward to appear in a movie tentatively titled The Play's The Thing.
We're not sure which of Hayward's movies this is, as none of his movies from
this period are titled or have a working title of The Play's The Thing.
Lightly toned and creased. Pencil mark on page 1. Staple holes near top edge.
Hayward (1909-1985, born in Johannesburg, South Africa) was an American
actor with over 60 TV shows and movies to his credit between 1932 and 1974. He
managed a London nightclub before debuting on the London stage. He co-starred in
a number of stage productions, including Dracula and Another
Language, before his screen debut in Self-Made Lady (1932). He
premiered on Broadway in 1935's Point Verlaine, a performance that which
earned him a Hollywood contract. Hayward played rogues and heroes... and
sometimes a little of both, with roles as D'Artagnan, Dick Turpin, Captain
Blood, Simon Templar in the last of the Saint B-movie series and, in 1954, as
producer and star of The Lone Wolf TV series. Hayward served as a Marine
during World War II and supervised the filming of the Battle of Tarawa, earning
him a Bronze Star for courage under fire.
