LUISA TETRAZZINIThe Italian opera singer penned her signature with a sentiment on this card dated 1908 Autograph sentiment signed: "Autographe en souvenir/ de/ Luisa Tetrazzini/ New York 12.11.1908" in black ink. 4¼x2. Dated December 11, 1908. Italian opera star Luisa Tetrazzini (1871-1940) had a highly polished mastery of her art, with a sensational command of the most difficult and florid music. She was also witty and good-natured, with a flair for fun that made her splendid in comedic roles. Tetrazzini, who sang notably in Rigoletto and La Traviata, was the inspiration for Chicken Tetrazzini, created by Chef George Auguste Escoffier of The Savoy in London. Tetrazzini was still a new star in 1908, having debuted at London's Covent Garden to great acclaim in 1907. The year she signed this sentiment, Oscar Hammerstein's Manhattan Opera Company upstaged the Metropolitan Opera by signing the new star first. Lightly toned. Sentiment blurred from water damage but still legible. Adhesive residue on verso. Otherwise, fine condition.
