Typed Letter signed: "Peter Jones", 1 page, 8¼x5¾. London, 1981 April 9. On personal letterhead to "Dear David", in full: "Thank you very much for your letter. I have been in America for three months and it has only just reached me. I used to collect autographs myself and sometimes they were a very long time coming. But I was very proud to get Paderevski's after waiting two years! He was a famous pianist many years ago and also became Prime Minister of Poland. I hope you will continue to enjoy your hobby and wish you 'good hunting!' Yours sincerely". British actor and comedian Peter Jones (1920-2000) co-starred with Peter Ustinov in In All Directions (1952-1955), improvised comedy from a car as they search for a street location in London. He was also heard on the Lord Peter Wimsey radio series, and as a panelist for 29 years on Just a Minute. He narrated the radio edition of Douglas Adams's A Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy and its sequel, and also TV documentaries. Known to TV audiences as Mr. Fenner on The Rag Trade, he made guest appearances on many shows, from Rumpole of the Bailey to The Avengers. His feature films included Private's Progress (1956), School for Scoundrels (1960), Just Like a Woman (1967), Return of the Pink Panther (1975) and Chariots of Fire (1981). A talented screenwriter, he wrote and starred in the sitcom Mr. Big and J. Kingston Platt's Showbiz Handbook. Corners slightly worn. Fine condition.
