Printed photograph signed: "Peter Serkin" in black felt tip. B/w, 8x10. American pianist Peter Serkin (1947-2020) comes from a long lineage of musicians as the son of Rudolf Serkin, and the grandson of prominent violinist Adolf Busch. In 1958, at the age of eleven Serkin began studying at the Curtis Institute of Music under masters such as Mieczyslaw Horszowski, Lee Luvisi, and his own father. In 1959 he began his concert career at the Marlboro Music Festival after which he was invited to play with the Cleveland Orchestra under George Szell and with the Philadelphia Orchestra with Eugene Ormandy. In 1966 at the age of 19 Serkin was awarded the Grammy Award for Best New Classical Artist/Most Promising New Classical Recording Artist, and since has earned three more Grammy nominations. Serkin has since worked with artists such as Yo-Yo Ma, Pamela Frank, the Guameri Quartet and the Budapest Quartet, as well as taught at many institutions including the Juilliard School, the Curtis Institute of Music and the Bard College Conservatory of Music.
