Football Hall of Famer, Sammy Baugh (1914-2008, born Samuel Adrian Baugh in Temple, Texas) was the Washington Redskins quarterback from 1937 to 1952. Baugh, the 1937 Cotton Ball MVP, would go on to play in the 1951 Pro Bowl. A premier passer who influenced a great offensive revolution, Baugh was the NFL passing, punting and interception champ in 1943, the last year that he led the NFL in punting for four consecutive seasons (1940-1943). Baugh's best statistical season was in 1945, when he completed 128 of 182 attempts for 1,669 yards. His single season punting average of 51.4, a record set in 1940, still stands. Noted as a premier passer who influenced a great offensive revolution, he was the NFL passing, punting and interception champ in 1943. History's top punter, his career records are: 21,886 yards, 186 TDs passing, 45.1-yard punting average. In 1999, the Associated Press ranked him as the third greatest NFL player of the twentieth century. Four years later, The Sporting News ranked him "merely" eleventh. He starred in the film King of the Texas Rangers (1941). After leaving the game as a player, Baugh coached at Hardin-Simmons University (1955-1959), and he then became the first coach of the New York Titans before coaching the Houston Oilers for a short time. Baugh retired from professional ball to his cattle ranch in Rotan, Texas. Normal cancellation holes, touching signature. Overall, fine condition.
