VALENTINE DAVIES
Oscar-winning author Valentine Davies signed this document in 1950 to give The Theatre Group permission to broadcast his play Blow Ye Winds on the U. S. Steel Corporation's radio show. He was paid $750 for his permission.
Document signed "Valentine Davies" in blue ink and by a representative of The Theatre Guild, Inc. in black ink. 2 pages, 8½x11, single-sided, partial carbon copy. June 2, 1950. Addressed to The Theatre Guild, Inc., New York City. Davies signed this document to give The Theatre Group license to broadcast his play Blow Ye Winds on the U. S. Steel Corporation's radio show at least once between Sept. 10, 1950 and June 3, 1951. He received $750 for his permission. Blow Ye Winds was a comedy that appeared on Broadway for two months at the 46th Street Theatre in 1937. You probably remember American author Davies (1905-1961) best for writing the original story for Miracle on 34th Street. It was adapted into a movie of the same time in 1947, which earned him an Oscar for Best Original Story. (He has three other Oscar nominations for writing, including for 1954's The Glenn Miller Story, which he also directed) In all, he has writing credits on 20 movies and TV shows between 1942 and 1994; four of these are on remakes of Miracle on 34th Street. Davies was also a playwright, with writing credits on three Broadway productions between 1931 and 1937 - not to mention Here's Love (1963-1964), which was based on, you guessed it, Miracle on 34th Street. Lightly toned, soiled and creased. Light discoloration at right edge of page 1 (does not touch signatures). Random carbon copy marks and random ink stains. Staple holes and paper clip impression in top left corner. Light tear at left edge of page 1. Folded twice and unfolded. Otherwise in fine condition.
