BORIS KARLOFF
An agreement between Boris Karloff and the Western Printing and Lithographing Co. regarding Karloff's royalties from the comic series "Boris Karloff - Tales of Mystery"
Contract signed: "Boris Karloff", 1 page, 8½x11. New York, New York, 1964 October 7. Agreement between Boris Karloff and the Western Printing and Lithographing Co. regarding Karloff's royalties from the comic series "Boris Karloff - Tales of Mystery", published by Western. In this document they agree to extend a contract dated October 1, 1962 for the period from January 1, 1965 to December 31, 1965. The company agrees to pay Karloff the minimum of $700.00 or 2½% of the U.S. retail price for half of the copies in production, whichever greater. Boris Karloff (1887-1969, born William Henry Pratt in Camberwell, London, England) was an English actor. Karloff had originally wanted a career in the diplomatic service, but he instead became one of Hollywood's most frightening actors. In 1931, he starred as the monster in the original Frankenstein, a role that had been turned down by Bela Lugosi. Karloff, who also scared the daylights out of movie-goers in the films The Mummy (1932) and The Ghoul (1933), hosted and occasionally starred in the TV series Thriller. He gave one of the best of his many film performances in the 1968 Peter Bogdanovich film Targets, in which he virtually played himself - an aging star of horror movies. "Boris Karloff - Tales of Mystery" comics series was published from October, 1964 to November, 1967. Multiple staple holes at top left. Two filing holes at top. Pencil note (unknown hand) in top right corner. Normal mailing folds. Lightly creased. Otherwise, fine condition.
