Letter of introduction written by Edward Everett Hale at Boston's South
Congregational Church in 1878.
Autograph letter signed "Edw. E Hale". 1 page, 5x8. South Congregational Church,
Boston, Massachusetts, Nov. 14, 1878. In full: "Dear Mr. Allen:- The bearer, Mr.
Wiserale, is a friend of mine, - whom you will like to Know. He has connected with the
Boston Herald Truly yours". Hale (1822-1909, born in Boston, Massachusetts) was Pastor
of the South Congregational Church in Boston (1856-1901) and Chaplain of the U.S. Senate
from 1903 to his death. Hale, a prolific author of both history and popular fiction, is best
remember today for his patriotic tale Man Without a Country(1863). Lightly toned and
creased. Lightly discolored at top and right edge and along bottom fold, which touches signature
and body of letter. Lightly torn from binding or larger sheet at left edge. Folded twice and
unfolded. Separation at right edge crease. Otherwise in fine condition.
