JANE FONDA and BRUCE GILBERT
Agreement with CBS Theatrical Films to produce the movie Jack the Bear, after acquiring the rights from novelist Dan McCall. This film was finally released 13 years later, with Gilbert (but not Fonda) still involved in production.
Document multi-signed: "Jane Fonda" (twice), "Bruce Gilbert" (twice), "William C. Nestel", 16 pages, 8½x11. No place, 1981 February 23. Gilbert has signed as President of Cutting Edge Productions, Fonda as President of Jayne Production Corp., and Nestel on behalf of CBS Theatrical Films. CBS Theatrical Films contracts from their respective production companies the services of Fonda and Gilbert to make the film Jack the Bear, after acquiring exclusive film and television rights from novelist Dan McCall. The daughter of actor Henry Fonda, JANE FONDA (b. 1937) made her early films under the influence of French husband Roger Vadim, cultivating a sex kitten image, as in 1968's Barbarella. Politically radicalized by the Vietnam War, she earned the lasting ire of many by a visit to North Vietnam at the height of the conflict. Her film career during the subsequent two decades was quite exceptional, however. She won Best Actress Oscars for Klute (1971) and Coming Home (1978), as well as nominations for They Shoot Horses, Don't They? (1969), Julia (1977), The China Syndrome (1979), On Golden Pond - her only film appearance with her father (1981), and The Morning After (1986). She also marketed a popular series of exercise videos. She was married to media mogul Ted Turner (1991-2000). Fonda continues to speak out on public issues, from feminism to Native American rights to foreign policy. BRUCE GILBERT (b. 1947) was producer or executive producer on several of Jane Fonda's most memorable films, including Coming Home, The China Syndrome and On Golden Pond. He has produced several other noteworthy films, most with a distinct social viewpoint, including Nine to Five (1980) and Glory & Honor (1998). Jack the Bear was not released until 1993, with Danny DeVito as the principal star. Neither Fonda nor CBS appear on the final credits. Twentieth Century-Fox and American Filmworks are credited instead. Multiple staple holes at top left corner. Staple at top left. Two filing holes at top. Lightly worn. Signed page loose from contract. Otherwise, fine condition.
