Agreement between Selznick International Pictures, Inc. and the actor
to perform the role of Purvis in the 1936 film Little Lord Fauntleroy.
Contract signed: "William Stack", 1 page (front and verso),
8½x17. No place, 1935 November 15. Agreement between Selznick
International Pictures, Inc. and William Stack to perform the role of Purvis in
the upcoming film Little Lord Fauntleroy at a salary of $750.00 per week.
The term of employment commencing on or around November 25, 1935. Stack never
performed the role,which was played by actor Gilbert Emery in the 1936
film.American actor William Stack (1882-1949) found success on
London stages in the first third of the 20th century, portraying Hamlet
among other roles. In 1930 he moved to Hollywood and began a busy career as a
supporting actor. Often mistaken now for British, he was usually cast as
distinguished minor characters: doctors, lawyers, butlers and noblemen.
Among his more prominent roles were in Becky Sharp (1935) and Mary
of Scotland (1936). He had an un-credited role as a minister in Gone
with the Wind (1939). Six horizontal folds. Creased. Worn. Light nicks
and tears at edges. Penil notes (unknown hand) at top right corner. Staple holes
at top. Two filing holes at top. Otherwise, fine condition.
