The talented husband-and-wife musical duo signs this program from their performance for the Amateur Musical Club's Community Concert Association
Program Signed: “Nikolas Graudan” in pencil and “Joanna Graudan” in blue ink, 4p (adjoined leaves), 6¼x9½. Program of the Amateur Musical Club Community Concert Association presentation of the pair as a Cello-Piano duo. NIKOLAI GRAUDAN (1896-1964) was a cellist who was known primarily as an interpreter of Beethoven, Brahms, and Bach. He studied at the St. Petersburg Conservatory then  was a first cellist with the Berlin Philharmonic from 1926 to 1935. He met his wife, Joanna, when both were on vacation in their shared native town of Libau. The two formed a dynamic duo that performed all over Europe. The Graudans immigrated to the U.S., and shortly afterward began playing with the Metropolitan Opera Company. He also played first chair with the Minneapolis Symphony for a number of years. Prior to his stint as an instructor at the University of California in Los Angeles, Graudan taught at the Aspen Institute of Music in Colorado. JOANNA GRAUDAN (1905-1993) was a pianist who studied under Kreutzer and Schnabel in Berlin. She performed as a guest musician with many of the same well-respected groups as her husband, including much-lauded performances with the Berlin Philharmonic and the Minneapolis Symphony. Stray pencil markings on both front and verso. Lightly toned. Otherwise, fine condition.
