Promissory note signed "Charles Edison" as Chairman of the Board of Directors and President of Edison Phonograph Works and by the Vice President & Financial Executive. 1 page, 8¾x4, with perforated left master. Four documentary stamps ($3.06 total) affixed on verso. Aug. 31, 1921. Promissory note no. 558, from Edison Phonograph works promising to pay Reuther Bros. $15,230 at Savings Investments & Trust Company in East Orange, New Jersey by Dec. 1, 1921. Edison (1890-1969, born in West Orange, New Jersey) was the fifth of inventor Thomas Edison's six children. He briefly served as President Franklin Delano Roosevelt's Secretary of the Navy in 1940 before being elected Governor of New Jersey (1941-1944). Lightly toned, creased and bowed. Folded twice and unfolded. Otherwise in fine condition.
