Inscribed photograph signed "To Louis F. Bachrach with kindest regards/Charles Edison". Pencil notations in unknown hand and labels on verso of mount. B/w, 11½x16½ overall, 11½x15 image, mounted on cardstock. Soft focus (deliberately blurred) photograph. Engraved in gold-colored ink in bottom right corner: "Bachrach/1940". Label in bottom left corner: "CHARLES EDISON/Son of the Late Thomas Edison/Ex-Governor of New Jersey". LOUIS FABIAN BACHRACH (1881-1963, born in Baltimore, Maryland) was a portrait photographer. CHARLES EDISON (1890-1969, born in West Orange, New Jersey) was the fifth of inventor Thomas Edison's six children. He briefly served as President Franklin Delano Roosevelt's Secretary of the Navy in 1940 before being elected Governor of New Jersey (1941-1944). Lightly toned and bowed. Signature has poor adhesion in places, but is legible. Paper loss along top, left and right edges of photo. Adhesive residue around label (does not touch signature). Tape residue on verso of mount. Otherwise in fine condition.
