Document signed twice: "Bob Ralston" [professional name], "Robert Howard Ralston" [legal name], 2 pages, 6x8¾, 1 sheet (front and verso), with 6¼x3½ receipt No. 073987 LA stapled to upper corners. Hollywood, California, 1963 May 22. Application for membership in the American Federation of Television and Radio Actors, Los Angeles chapter. Accompanied by carbon copy of a payment receipt. He identifies himself as a musician, and his commitment as the Lawrence Welk Orchestra, May 29, 1963. He states that he is also a member of Local 47, American Federation of Musicians. Bob Ralston (b. 1938) began performing with Lawrence Welk in 1962, while completing his music degree at USC. He became a full-time member of the Orchestra in 1963, remaining with Welk until the latter left TV in 1982. Ralston's duties with Welk were many: pianist, organist, singer, dancer, arranger and comedian. Ralston is a church organist and shares a cruise show act with Eddie Fisher. A member of MENSA, he studies languages and solves logic problems for recreation. He is the nephew of film star Esther Ralston, and the son of Marjorie Norton (the first voice of Minnie Mouse for Walt Disney). Lightly creased. Fold crease at upper edge of receipt. Otherwise, fine condition.
