This signed image of Rodin's plaster statue of his lover, Camille Claudel, is titled: L'Adieu (The Farewell) (1892). His young protégé suffered a mental breakdown in 1898 and was later hospitalized. Rodin's classic realism in sculpture was generally devoted to the sensuality of the human body seen in such works as The Thinker (1880) and The Kiss (1886). Fine condition. Limited edition lithograph of the artist's work titled "At the Barber" # 1/200 Limited-edition Lithograph signed: "Norman/Rockwell". 1/200, 19 x 30¼ visible. Norman Rockwell (1894-1978) captured scenes from American life in his magazine covers and illustrations, often noted for their humorous and accurate depictions of 1940's and 1950's life. Rockwell's drawings, however, were skillfully executed with minute attention to detail and were so realistic that they usually resembled photographs rather than paintings. He painted over 300 covers for the "Saturday Evening Post" (1916-1965) after beginning his career at age 18 as an illustrator for "Boy's Life". In addition to his many works for the Post, Rockwell illustrated the "Boy Scout Calendar" from 1926-1976. Rockwell published his autobiography, Norman Rockwell, My Adventures as an Illustrator, in 1960. Lightly creased. Lightly soiled at lower blank margin. Worn at left edge. Fine condition. The painter signs a richly detailed, 4-page handwritten letter to his wife Julie (1892), discussing business and family affairs, and expressing frustration at mail delays Autograph Letter signed: "C. Pissarro", 4 pages (front and verso), 4½x7. Eragny (France), 1892 December 27. To"My dear Julie". In French, translated in full: "One cannot rely on the punctuality of the mail these days; would you believe that your letter to Lise only arrived here yesterday, thus too late to be communicated in time; I hope that you were nevertheless on time at your aunt's. Something else even more extraordinary, I received yesterday the letter that you sent to Lucien on Saturday, the imbeciles at the Hotel who know my name, even though Lucien is staying with them, still sent the letter to me; I thought it would be useless to send it back because it would have come back to me, and besides it was too late. The 2 p.m. train just came by, nobody. Lucien wrote that he would perhaps miss it and would be on the 3:45. I enclose herewith a letter from Mrs. Mirbeau that must be answered. Peissier writes to me that the notary in Chaumont agrees to smaller fees and will have Edoline sign a promise to receive the six thousand francs in three months or perhaps in one month.…"

Pierre Auguste Renoir (1841-1919), a leader among the Impressionists, is best known for his landscapes and paintings of figures and flowers. Renoir, who also enjoyed painting his children, also painted Claude, the youngest of his three sons (born in 1901 when the artist was 60), at his easel (1907) and dressed in a clown costume (1909). In a handwritten letter to a friend in Paris, Cassatt explains that her art keeps her too busy to reply to most letters, but that she would welcome a visit in the Spring. ALS: "Mary Cassatt", 6 pages, 5¼x7, front and verso. Mesnil-Beaufresne, Mesnil-Theribus (Oise), France, no date. On imprinted stationery to Miss Mary Gardner Swift. Begins: "My Dear Mary". In full: "Of course I had your letter but I never thought of answering it. If you knew what my life was you would [five words illegible] than in the [illegible] If you would love to write to me anything that you think I would I shall always be glad to know [two words illegible] I am a very busy woman. Most of my correspondence is done in French through my [illegible] Is French, she has been with us 43 years Ever since my Mothers (sic) death thirty years ago I have been alone, carrying on this place & working here. Ah my art. Of course I have been better known as an artist in France [illegible] is a member of the family In the meantime I send you my kindest regards & hope that next Spring if I am well enough you will come out and see me I had my three nephews and one niece here this last summer. Ellen Mary has a daughter born Sept 9th.…"

Frank Lloyd Wright calls his work “The only truly American expression in the art of architecture” Extremely rare Partly Printed DS: "Frank Lloyd Wright Architect", 1p, 5½x8½. No date, no place. An application for information to be published in a directory. Headed: "Business or Professional Record". In the upper portion, which asks for "data to enable the editor to do complete justice to your business or professional record", Wright has written, in full: "Work characterized as 'New School of Middle West' in America -- Abroad, as the architecture of the 'Prairie Dimension' -- the only truly American expression in the art of Architecture. Many foreign publications of distinction publish the work and European architects manifest increasing interest in it." Wright has also written "None" twice in columns asking for information on being an officer or director of a corporation and the office or position occupied. At the bottom of the form is a line that reads "Please enclose your business card or other printed matter in order that spelling of names may be verified.…"

Extremely rare letter written by Andrew Wyeth at his winter home in Chadds Ford, Pennsylvania in 1947 about a painting of the Battle of the Nile. Letters from Wyeth that discuss works in progress and include diagrams drawn by him are rarely encountered in the public market and are highly desirable. Autograph letter signed "Andrew". 2 pages, 7¼x10¼, single-sided sheets. March 16, 1947, Chadds Ford, Pennsylvania. In full: "Dear Mr. Fisher: Thank you for your letter of the 14th also the prints and material reguarding (sic) the French ship Guerrier. I don't think we need worry ourselves about the figure-head on the ship as the smoke from the foremast quite does away with it. I have followed the prints of the Guerrier very closely when you return this working drawing you might tell me what color the Guerrier was painted. I was most happy to receive the Mavel (sic) Academy Museum pamphlets for my files, more Thanks. The position of Nelson's ship Vanguard in my drawing to the French ship Guerrier. I really think I can make a better water color with this change. Will you mail the drawing back to me as soon as possible so that I can get on with the finished work.…"

Deep-relief bust rendering of George Washington's head from an original cast by Gutzon Borglum, the sculptor who created the Mount Rushmore National Monument. Produced to help finance construction of the "shrine of democracy", this model displays Borglum's vision and craftsmanship, and was personally signed by him. Original art signed "Gutzon Borglum/Rushmore" on verso. 4¼x5x2 plaster sculpture mounted on 8x9¼x¼ brown velvet-covered wood board. This is a deep-relief rendering of George Washington's head, from a mold made by the sculptor who created the Mount Rushmore National Monument. Executed before the monument itself, this model reflects Borglum's design in its planning stage. Though a small piece, it is filled with subtle details that breathe life and humanity - and dignity - into its subject. This patriotic piece of Americana is a fine exhibition of Borglum's skills. John Gutzon de la Mothe  Borglum (1867-1941), born in St. Charles, Idaho, already famous for creating the great head of Lincoln in the U.S. Capitol rotunda, was commissioned to begin work on a "shrine of democracy" in 1927.

Original Max portrait of Theodore Herzl Original Art Signed: "Max". Mixed medium on canvas, 1997, catalogue #36574. Signed at center left. 20x16 visible. Titled "Portrait of Theodore Herzl Ver.II #9". Fine condition. Peter Max, born in Berlin in 1937, spent most of his first ten years in Shanghai, and then traveled the world with his parents before immigrating to the US in 1953. Already an award-winning graphic artist and designer, Max burst on the cultural scene in the 1960s, first with his "psychedelic art" and then with a new concept, "cosmic art." Max, who works in many mediums, has been the official artist for the Grammy Awards, the New Orleans Jazz Festival, the Woodstock Music Festival and 5 Super Bowls. He has decorated a Boeing 747, a Dale Earnhardt racecar, and 265 murals on the US border. He has designed popular US and UN stamps, painted five US Presidents, the Beatles, the Rolling Stones, Mikhail Gorbachev, and the Dalai Lama. He painted individual portraits of 356 firefighters who lost their lives heroically on 9/11, presenting these portraits to the families, and then at President Bush's request designed 356 more for the firefighters' memorial. In 1896.

Signed autograph letter to a biographer concerning photographic plates missing from his collection Autograph Letter signed: "Alfred Stieglitz", 2 pages, 8½x11, front and verso (hinged to show both sides). New York City, 1933 December 18. To his friend (and author) Grace E. Titus, who was working a book about the innovative photographer. In full, as written: "Every number of Camera Work was published complete when issued. The way it happens that Plates are missing is that frequently Camera Work came out of the Bindery with Plates to be inserted by me personally after binding. Some years ago many of the Insets were either destroyed or mislaid. Hence the impossibility of completing many issues at present I know of no way of acquiring missing plates except in keeping one's eyes open for numbers of Camera Work as they may appear in the market Absolutely complete sets of Camera Work are very, very rare & are priceless. No I have no reproductions either There are none The Plates in Camera Work for the major part are photo gravures made directly from original negatives & were made under my direction as were the prints. -So from a certain point of view many of the Plates might be looked upon as a species of originals".

Painter, sculptor, and author Charles Bragg (1931-2017) was a social satire artist. His art has been exhibited in museums and galleries, commissioned by Playboy, and documented in a PBS program. He won a Gold Medal from the National Society of Illustrators and an Award of Merit from the Art Directors Guild of New York. His publications include Charles Bragg on Medicine (1984), Charles Bragg: The Works! A Retrospective (1999), and Asylum Earth (2013). Fine condition. Framed to an overall size of 36 x 30. Visually striking 9¾x12½ print of a swan in flight, signed by the French painter, affixed to16x20 card stock Printed Art signed: "G Braque", 9¾x12½ print affixed to a 16x20 piece of card stock. French painter Georges Braque (1882-1963) painted everything from landscapes to still-lifes, his style evolving from Impressionism to Fauvism to Cubism. Braque and Picasso were co-developers of the Cubist style. By the time of his death, Braque was considered one of the great elder statesmen of the art world. Additionally. he is credited with producing the first papier collé picture in 1912. Fine condition.
