This signed image of Rodin's plaster statue of his lover, Camille Claudel, is titled: L'Adieu (The Farewell) (1892). His young protégé suffered a mental breakdown in 1898 and was later hospitalized. Rodin's classic realism in sculpture was generally devoted to the sensuality of the human body seen in such works as The Thinker (1880) and The Kiss (1886). Fine condition. Painter, sculptor, and author Charles Bragg (1931-2017) was a social satire artist. His art has been exhibited in museums and galleries, commissioned by Playboy, and documented in a PBS program. He won a Gold Medal from the National Society of Illustrators and an Award of Merit from the Art Directors Guild of New York. His publications include Charles Bragg on Medicine (1984), Charles Bragg: The Works! A Retrospective (1999), and Asylum Earth (2013). Peter Max, born in Berlin in 1937, spent most of his first ten years in Shanghai, and then traveled the world with his parents before immigrating to the US in 1953. Already an award-winning graphic artist and designer, Max burst on the cultural scene in the 1960s, first with his "psychedelic art" and then with a new concept, "cosmic art." Max, who works in many mediums, has been the official artist for the Grammy Awards, the New Orleans Jazz Festival, the Woodstock Music Festival and 5 Super Bowls. He has decorated a Boeing 747, a Dale Earnhardt racecar, and 265 murals on the US border. He has designed popular US and UN stamps, painted five US Presidents, the Beatles, the Rolling Stones, Mikhail Gorbachev, and the Dalai Lama. He painted individual portraits of 356 firefighters who lost their lives heroically on 9/11, presenting these portraits to the families, and then at President Bush's request designed 356 more for the firefighters' memorial.

Limited edition lithograph of the artist's work titled "At the Barber" # 1/200 Limited-edition Lithograph signed: "Norman/Rockwell". 1/200, 19 x 30¼ visible. Norman Rockwell (1894-1978) captured scenes from American life in his magazine covers and illustrations, often noted for their humorous and accurate depictions of 1940's and 1950's life. Rockwell's drawings, however, were skillfully executed with minute attention to detail and were so realistic that they usually resembled photographs rather than paintings. He painted over 300 covers for the "Saturday Evening Post" (1916-1965) after beginning his career at age 18 as an illustrator for "Boy's Life". In addition to his many works for the Post, Rockwell illustrated the "Boy Scout Calendar" from 1926-1976. Rockwell published his autobiography, Norman Rockwell, My Adventures as an Illustrator, in 1960. Lightly creased. Lightly soiled at lower blank margin. Worn at left edge. Fine condition. Remington creates a remarkable pen and ink drawing of himself holding painter's palette. Original Art Signed "Yours faithfully / Frederick Remington / New Rochelle NY Aug 20 '1897" 3 ¾ x 3. Overall size of 9 ½ x 8 ¾. Framed by unknown individual. Fine condition. Frederic Remington (1861-1909), a prolific Western artist, was chiefly known for his portrayals of the Old West, where he traveled extensively. His works, which usually depicted cowboys, Indians and horses, are notable for their authenticity of detail. Beginning in 1886, Remington produced more than 400 illustrations for the nation's ten leading periodicals, including "Century Magazine", in which Remington illustrated articles written by his friend, Theodore Roosevelt. Sent to Cuba in the 1890s by newspaper publisher William Randolph Hearst, who was actively promoting war with Spain, and returning in 1898 to cover the U.S. campaign against the Spanish, Remington was appalled by war's cruelty. However, he produced a memorable sculpture, The Bronco Buster, in tribute to Teddy Roosevelt's leadership of volunteer "Rough Riders" at the Battle of San Juan Hill.

The painter sketches images of his eight-year-old daughter “dressing up” in a bustle and comments on his art and that of his son Lucien. Autograph Letter signed: "C. Pissarro", 1 page (front and verso), 10x8 which folds to 5x8. Pissarro writes from his home in Eragny to his niece in England of family matters and of his art. Specifically, he thanks her for sending his children clothing and draws two humorous sketches of Cocotte, his eight-year-old daughter, wearing a bustle from a front and side view. He also writes of the completion of his drawings created in the town of Rouen, a favorite locale of impressionist artists. His son Lucien was in Paris at the time of this letter, and he helped his father prepare for art shows from there. Pissarro states that he is forwarding his drawings from Rouen as well as an etching done by Lucien. Like a proud father, he continues to talk about Lucien's work specifically on a children's book which was giving the boy trouble when it came to drawing the animals and father jokes of the final product: "...it will be ready in 2 or 3 days.…"

Pierre Auguste Renoir (1841-1919), a leader among the Impressionists, is best known for his landscapes and paintings of figures and flowers. Renoir, who also enjoyed painting his children, also painted Claude, the youngest of his three sons (born in 1901 when the artist was 60), at his easel (1907) and dressed in a clown costume (1909). 1812 indenture renting land in Philadelphia owned by Mary Penn, signed by the prolific Peale family member as a witness. Extremely rare signature from the artist! Indenture signed "Rubens Peale" as a witness. Also signed by Mary Penn through her attorney "Thos. Cadwalader" in lower right corner. 2 pages, 21½x14¼ (front and verso). Aug. 1, 1812. This indenture rents an 11-acre-and-100-perches lot of land in Philadelphia to John Craige for eight silver dollars a year. In return, Craige had to erect a brick or stone house on the property worth at least $1,333.34 within two years. American artist Rubens Peale (1784-1865) was one of the children of artist-naturalist Charles Willson Peale. Born with poor eyesight, Peale wouldn't follow his siblings into an art career until much later in life. He became manager and then administrative proprietor of the Peale family's museum of art and science in Philadelphia and began his own museum in New York City in 1825. It was after his retirement from museum directing that Peale began painting, using still life painting as an extension of his interest in natural history. However, his painting career was short lived as he passed 10 years later in 1865, leaving most of his artwork and paintings extremely rare.

1987 Lenny Dykstra personally owned, original artwork by LeRoy Neiman Original Artwork titled "Slugger" and signed "LeRoy Nieman '87" 17 x 23. This distinctive work from the most famous name in sports art was apparently either commissioned by or gifted to Dykstra by Neiman and captures "Nails" in the distinctive pinstriped uniform of that glorious World Championship era. The painting is titled "The Slugger" and autographed by Neiman in pencil at bottom right.  LeRoy Neiman (1921-2012) is best known for his brilliantly colored, energetic illustrations. Based in New York City, he is recognized as the consummate sports artist of the 20th century. In 1972 he was named the official artist for the Olympic Games. He was designated the outstanding sports artist in America by the Amateur Athletic Union (1976) and was given the Olympic Artist of the Century Award in 1979, and Sport Artist of the Year Award in 2007. Len "Nails" Dykstra played outfield for the New York Mets from 1985 to 1989, participating in the World Championship. With the Philadelphia Phillies (1989-1996) he reached the World Series again, this time in a losing effort against the Toronto Blue Jays.

Matisse signs a typed New Year's greeting for 1953 on verso of this 6x4 printed version of his self-referential painting, The Painter and His Model Printed Art signed in Ink: "H. Matisse" on verso, 6x4. His typed note in French above his signature, translated in full: "My thanks and my best/ wishes for 1953". The printed card features a reproduction of his painting, The Painter and His Model, from the Museum of Modern Art, Paris. A short version of the title, simply The Painter, is printed on this card. French painter, sculptor, and printmaker Henri Matisse (1869-1954), who was influenced by Post-Impressionism, revolted against Pointillism and became a leader of the Fauvist school, although his later work moved in other directions. He was a master in the use of form and color to convey emotion. A lifelong friend and rival of Pablo Picasso, Matisse shared many similarities with his contemporary. However, he differed from Picasso in that Matisse usually painted from nature. In The Painter and His Model (1917) Matisse also depicts himself in his Paris studio painting in another well-known work, Laurette in a Green Robe (1916). Lightly toned. Otherwise, fine condition.

Ten months after being dismissed from teaching for using a male model in a women's drawing class, the artist signed this handwritten letter explaining that requests for instructional casts must be addressed to the director who fired him Autograph Letter Signed: "Thomas Eakins", 1¾ pages, 4½x8. Philadelphia, 1886 December 7. To Mr. Frank M. Cowles. The letter is placed on a smaller frame with a hinge, allowing for a plaque featuring the letter's full message in a plaque behind it. In Full: "Those casts of which you speak were made from my dissections at the Pennsylvania Acad. Of the Fine Arts while I was a professor there. I am no longer connected with the institution, so I would advise you to address Mr. Edward H. Coates who is chairman of the committee on Instruction. His address is 116 Chestnut St. Philadelphia. The old arrangement was that they should be furnished to any art student or art institution at cost price which varies somewhat. My remembrance is that the whole set came to about 11 or 12 dollars. My delay in answering your note was caused by a seeming possibility that I should have seen Mr. Coates myself, which however I did not find time to do.…"

He signs an autograph letter thanking a fellow artist for his "articles against the critics." Autograph letter signed: "T-Lautrec", 1 page, 4½x7. No place, no date. To "My dear Marty". In French, translated. In full: "We remain open next week, so you may let it be known. I don't know if I asked you to do it yesterday. Thanks for the articles against the jurists. Cordially" French painter and printmaker Henri Toulouse-Lautrec (1864-1901) is famous for his posters and other images of Parisian nightlife in the "belle époque" of the 1890s. His early painting, "The Laundress", sold for $22.4 million in 2005. The letter is written to young fellow artist Andre Edouard Marty, later a leader of the Art Deco movement. Slightly creased. Ink transference at upper blank margin from folding the letter before ink had dried. Fine condition.
