Abraham Lincoln Life Mask copy by Leonard W. Volk. This mask measures 10 ½ high x 10 wide x 8 deep. American sculptor LEONARD VOLK (1828-1895), who studied in Rome with the help of Illinois political figure Stephen A. Douglas, opened a studio in Chicago in 1959. Closely observing Douglas and his rival, Abraham Lincoln, during their debates, he sculpted both men and did Lincoln's life mask and made casts of both of his hands. Volk's monument to Douglas stands in Chicago and statues of Douglas and Lincoln grace the state Capitol in Springfield, Illinois. The sculptor also did portrait busts of Lincoln and a number of other subjects, including Henry Clay. Fine Condition.

Bronze sculptures by the artist, titled "Francis of Azussa". Large bronze sculpture, 16 inches tall, 10 ¾ inch diameter. Accompanied by six smaller figurines, of which, three measure 3 inches tall, two measure 4 inches tall, and one measures 5 inches tall. Circa 1980. Titled "Francis of Azussa". Painter, sculptor, and author Charles Bragg (1931-2017) was a social satire artist. His art has been exhibited in museums and galleries, commissioned by Playboy, and documented in a PBS program. He won a Gold Medal from the National Society of Illustrators and an Award of Merit from the Art Directors Guild of New York. His publications include Charles Bragg on Medicine (1984), Charles Bragg: The Works! A Retrospective (1999), and Asylum Earth (2013). All sculptures in excellent condition.

The artist signed this copy of his book with a flourish, creating a unique signature that incorporates an original drawing Book signed: "Dali/1975" (signature embellished to become original drawing) on half-title page beneath printed signature: "Dali", 456p, 5x7½, hardcover. Dali: Confessiones Inconfessables, by Salvador Dali and André Parinaud, Editorial Bruguera, S.A.: 1975. First Spanish edition. A flamboyant painter and sometimes writer, sculptor, and experimental filmmaker, Dalí (1904-1989) was the best known of the surrealist artists, using bizarre dream imagery to create unforgettable and unmistakable landscapes of his inner world. In 1929, Dalí met Gala Eluard, a staunch Surrealist who later became his wife. During the height of his fame, he was dismissed formally from the Surrealist group in 1934 for his fascination with Hitler. Responding, Dalí stated "Surrealism? I AM Surrealism!" During 1940 and 1941, he and Gala moved to America, and it was here that Dalí began concentrating on more accepted themes. In the United States he engaged in an extensive amount of self-promotion and absurd activities.

Norman Rockwell (1894-1978) captured scenes from American life in his magazine covers and illustrations, often noted for their humorous and accurate depictions of 1940's and 1950's life. Rockwell's drawings, however, were skillfully executed with minute attention to detail and were so realistic that they usually resembled photographs rather than paintings. He painted over 300 covers for the "Saturday Evening Post" (1916-1965) after beginning his career at age 18 as an illustrator for "Boy's Life". In addition to his many works for the Post, Rockwell illustrated the "Boy Scout Calendar" from 1926-1976. Rockwell published his autobiography, Norman Rockwell, My Adventures as an Illustrator, in 1960. Lightly creased. Lightly soiled at lower blank margin. Worn at left edge. Fine condition. Fine condition. Peter Max, born in Berlin in 1937, spent most of his first ten years in Shanghai, and then traveled the world with his parents before immigrating to the US in 1953. Already an award-winning graphic artist and designer, Max burst on the cultural scene in the 1960s, first with his "psychedelic art" and then with a new concept, "cosmic art." Max, who works in many mediums, has been the official artist for the Grammy Awards, the New Orleans Jazz Festival, the Woodstock Music Festival and 5 Super Bowls. He has decorated a Boeing 747, a Dale Earnhardt racecar, and 265 murals on the US border. He has designed popular US and UN stamps, painted five US Presidents, the Beatles, the Rolling Stones, Mikhail Gorbachev, and the Dalai Lama. He painted individual portraits of 356 firefighters who lost their lives heroically on 9/11, presenting these portraits to the families, and then at President Bush's request designed 356 more for the firefighters' memorial. In 1896.

Matisse signs a typed New Year's greeting for 1953 on verso of this 6x4 printed version of his self-referential painting, The Painter and His Model Printed Art signed in Ink: "H. Matisse" on verso, 6x4. His typed note in French above his signature, translated in full: "My thanks and my best/ wishes for 1953". The printed card features a reproduction of his painting, The Painter and His Model, from the Museum of Modern Art, Paris. A short version of the title, simply The Painter, is printed on this card. French painter, sculptor, and printmaker Henri Matisse (1869-1954), who was influenced by Post-Impressionism, revolted against Pointillism and became a leader of the Fauvist school, although his later work moved in other directions. He was a master in the use of form and color to convey emotion. A lifelong friend and rival of Pablo Picasso, Matisse shared many similarities with his contemporary. However, he differed from Picasso in that Matisse usually painted from nature. In The Painter and His Model (1917) Matisse also depicts himself in his Paris studio painting in another well-known work, Laurette in a Green Robe (1916). Lightly toned. Otherwise, fine condition.

Pierre Auguste Renoir (1841-1919), a leader among the Impressionists, is best known for his landscapes and paintings of figures and flowers. Renoir, who also enjoyed painting his children, also painted Claude, the youngest of his three sons (born in 1901 when the artist was 60), at his easel (1907) and dressed in a clown costume (1909). The noted western artist pens os Hong Kong and draws two cartoons illustrating where the best scotch in China can be found Autograph Note on Original Art Signed: "Frederic Remington", 2p, 8x6½, front and verso. In full, as written: "Much obliged for the photo. - The[y] move like the patients in a chiropodists ante-room. But its a good photo. - I see there are the G-darndest plagues going in in Hong Kong - Foo-Chin - Ko-so - Fol-hi and other Chinese settlements on the coast that it aint safe this side of the Big Correl fence - I think any man who will go to China would go to Hell for a Pastime. Did you give Willie Bull-calf a good send off? After it published I wont dare go down - some their skinned glad - will push a new kind of edged tool into my mid-riff cause he think I wrote it. Lots of moon-gazers think I write all the letter press that goes with my pictures. I [two words illegible] lots think you also are a drawer I am now pleading with the Cos - tan to get Clark's M.S.…"

The artist signs an image of his plaster statue depicting his lover, Camille Claudel. Postcard Photograph signed: "Rodin". Sepia, 4 x 5½ overall, image 4 x 4¾ (one surface). This signed image of Rodin's plaster statue of his lover, Camille Claudel, is titled: L'Adieu (The Farewell) (1892). His young protégé suffered a mental breakdown in 1898 and was later hospitalized. Rodin's classic realism in sculpture was generally devoted to the sensuality of the human body seen in such works as The Thinker (1880) and The Kiss (1886). Fine condition. Framed to an overall size of 23 x 16¼. Frame exhibits wearing at corners.

In a handwritten letter to a friend in Paris, Cassatt explains that her art keeps her too busy to reply to most letters, but that she would welcome a visit in the Spring. In full: "Of course I had your letter but I never thought of answering it. If you knew what my life was you would [five words illegible] than in the [illegible] If you would love to write to me anything that you think I would I shall always be glad to know [two words illegible] I am a very busy woman. Most of my correspondence is done in French through my [illegible] Is French, she has been with us 43 years Ever since my Mothers (sic) death thirty years ago I have been alone, carrying on this place & working here. Ah my art. Of course I have been better known as an artist in France [illegible] is a member of the family In the meantime I send you my kindest regards & hope that next Spring if I am well enough you will come out and see me I had my three nephews and one niece here this last summer. Ellen Mary has a daughter born Sept 9th.…"

Costa Rican-born artist Zúñiga (1912-1998) was primarily a painter up until 1936, when he moved to Mexico and became an important figure in Mexico's political moderne style, with his life-sized stone and bronze sculptures of indigenous women with big proportions and tightly wrapped shawls. His art reflects a great respect for the cultures and people of Central America and is in the permanent collections of the Metropolitan Museum of Art and Museum of Modern Art in New York, the Museo de Arte Moderno in Mexico City and the Hirshborn Museum in Washington, D. C., among others.

Deep-relief bust rendering of George Washington's head from an original cast by Gutzon Borglum, the sculptor who created the Mount Rushmore National Monument. Produced to help finance construction of the "shrine of democracy", this model displays Borglum's vision and craftsmanship, and was personally signed by him. Original art signed "Gutzon Borglum/Rushmore" on verso. 4¼x5x2 sculpture mounted on 8x9¼x¼ brown velvet-covered wood board. This is a deep-relief rendering of George Washington's head, from a mold made by the sculptor who created the Mount Rushmore National Monument. Executed before the monument itself, this model reflects Borglum's design in its planning stage. Though a small piece, it is filled with subtle details that breathe life and humanity - and dignity - into its subject. This patriotic piece of Americana is a fine exhibition of Borglum's skills. John Gutzon de la Mothe Borglum (1867-1941), born in St. Charles, Idaho, already famous for creating the great head of Lincoln in the U.S. Capitol rotunda, was commissioned to begin work on a "shrine of democracy" in 1927.
