HANS ERNI. Printed Art signed: "Hans Erni". Color, 8½x11. Erni has drawn a dove to the left of his signature. Facsimile signature at lower right corner. Numbered: "429/1000". Imprinted on verso: "From a Painting by Hans Erni, Switzerland". Two tape remnants at upper margin of verso (no show through). Fine condition. Accompanied by Printed DS: "Annabelle Wiener" for the World Federation of United Nations Associations, 1p, 8½x11. United Nations, New York City, 1983 January 24. Headed: "Print Documentation". Sheet provides information on the lithograph, which accompanied the "World Communications Year" United Nations stamp, issued on January 28, 1983, as well as authentication and a background on the artist. In part: "For more than four decades, Hans Erni has enjoyed an international reputation as one of the most brilliant and versatile artists of the 20th century. In his native Switzerland, Erni, now 73, is the nation's most popular artist. His works have been exhibited throughout Europe, Asia, Australia and North America, and included in major museums and public buildings around the world...A versatile and prolific artist, Erni has created original lithographs and etchings to illustrate more than 200 books, designed scenery and costumes for four operas; created medals for the Swiss mint and designed more than 30 postage stamps for Switzerland and Liechtenstein. In addition to his artistic accomplishments, Erni has played hockey, won a ski championship, was a pole vaulter, and has piloted airplanes. He has also authored three books based on his experiences on research expeditions that explored Mauritania, Guinea, Senegal, India and Israel, and written and lectured extensively on art theory."
